In all honesty, if I had gotten to it first, I probably would have posted it in Near Misses too, just due to his age and the iconic status of your picture. As you've pointed out, however, it's not a cut-and-dry case. I think in the end, it's got a lot to do with how many deaths you post. If I were to do it, I'd probably have gotten away with it, or perhaps a light disagreement or two, whereas it's natural to view iain's submissions with a cautious eye.

CP, my issue is not whether its a near miss. My issue is whether Rosenthal is the most famous photographer ever who took THE most famous photograph. The answer is no, and no.

Oh, I completely agree. I was just sorting of voicing my opinion on the matter in general.

Quote

I think Rosenthal unfortunately falls into the category where his photo is more famous than he is.

I don't deny it. <_<
Twunt Master Series (August 2007 - January 2008) (January 2008 - June 2008) (July 2008 - April 2009) (April 2009 - January 2010)

10 Photographers more famous than Joe Rosenthal
  • David Bailey
  • Don McCullin
  • Robert Capa
  • Lord Snowdon
  • Man Ray
  • Diane Arbus
  • Henri Cartier Bresson (Deathlist success)
  • Robert Mapplethorpe

And why my angel eyes ain't here

Excuse me while I disappear

Most famous photographer.....but surely, Arthur Edwards, former royal snapper for The Sun, everyone knows Arthur.

Retired but still chipper and prone to taunting us with his good health when interviewed, DL 2019, maybe.

A bit of trivia... Ernest Gallo is ranked by Forbes as #283 in the list of the 400 richest Americans
yes but is he going to die any time soonm?Thats all that matters!

Was Arthur Edwards the one who snapped Queen Liz picking her nose? or am I thinking of another photographer?

Sailing photographer Keith Beken has died aged 92. He sounds a bit obscure to me but he must have achieved some degree of fame for his death to be reported on the BBC's website.
My only regret, is that I have...boneitis.

Oh jolly bean. Another hit for my lacklustre 2008 season & another hit for my very strong CPDP season.

However, not so jolly bean as that's a 3rd update for the DDP. May have to do that tonight if I get 30 mins spare..

Photographer, Burt Glinn, who once replaced Philip Jones Griffiths as head of the Magnum photoagency, has died of kidney failure and pneumonia.
What are heavy? Sea-sand and sorrow;
What are brief? Today and tomorrow;
What are frail? Spring blossoms and youth;
What are deep? The ocean and truth.

Netherlands.

Not known to many, cameraman Jan Schaper died. He was the one who filmed the legendary Stones consert in the Scheveningen Kurhaus on August 8th 1964. It was the very first Stones gig in history that was interupted due to riots. It was also their very first gig outside their native England.

From the Kurhaus website:

Quote

So, too, the Rolling Stones, whose performance in the Kurhaus, though notorious, was the shortest they ever gave (1964).

And thanks to Youtube you can enjoy the fun as well!!
