After a recent discussion with a fellow DLer, I went on a wikihunt for Welsh Comedians and found these two comedians who seem to be old yet going strong. Wyn Calvin and Stan Stennett.

As it stands*, all Welsh born comedians who are remotely funny seem to have either moved in their infancies to the right side, sorry, east side of Offas Dyke or had public schooling in England. (Griff Rhys Jones, Dawn French, Paul Whitehouse, Keith Allen and Terry Jones for the benefit of BC Alum who it would appear adores lists). And yes, Rob Anton de Beke Brydon is absent for a reason. He is sh*t.

* from Wiki and my personal appraisal of the wiki list of Welsh comedians. There's nothing like some good old fashioned bias in a DL post :unsure:

The Welsh language poet Dic Jones has died at the age of 75. He was also the Archdruid of Wales and a farmer.

Quote

He wrote poems extolling the Ffyrgi and the Jac Codi Baw – the Massey Fergusson tractor and the JCB

What are heavy? Sea-sand and sorrow;
What are brief? Today and tomorrow;
What are frail? Spring blossoms and youth;
What are deep? The ocean and truth.

I'll leave it up to any Welshmen on this forum to decide if they are insulted or deeply gratified to be considered "foreign" by you Poms. :P

Meanwhile, Sif Ruud has rudely departed at the age of 95. She was the star of a number of Ingmar Bergman films including It Rains on Our Love, Wild Strawberries and The Magician, so this is a big loss for the world of non-English language cinema: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sif_Ruud

Pobol y Cwm is performed in Welsh ... that makes it foreign.

I did look for the Eminent Welshmen thread, but there isn't one.

Deathlisters might also like to use the Talk Like A Taff and The Welsh Film Industry threads as points of reference.

One of my more speculative picks, but as usual I'm a bit gutted about it. I heard they postponed filming of the Spartacus sequel when he became ill, hoping that he'd recover - then went on to write and film a prequel instead to give him even more time. Guess they'll have to recast after all. Having seen how good Xena looked in that series (for her age) I presumed they'd found the elixir of youth, but were only using it to treat hollywood (c-list) celebs.

thank you for that touching tribute .You were just a bit late though!
I was thrown off this forum for posting too many interesting and entertaining posts,thus embarrassing less imaginative posters than myself.If you feel this is not fair or democratic and indeed infringes my basic human rights under the United Nations laws please let the moderators and admin know.Thanks.
