I thought at first the abuse, suggested in the papers, his wife was dishing out on the poor old professor might lead to his downfall, but I am now of the opinion that he will now be more carefully watched by his army of helpers . . . but you never know!

According to the Mirror, it is suggested that his wife inflicted a cut to his throat, broke his hand and numerous other wounds - she denies this, but the army of carers he has to help him confirm that she does attack him. Hope this helps.

I was partcularly surprised to learn that the good professor also has an ex-wife...and three kids by her!

Frankly my mind hasnt boggeled this much since the "Phil Spector pulling a gun on Stevie Wonder" thread.

Where does he meet all these women?...What chat up lines does he use??...What tone of voice did he use to tell his first wife he was leaving her???

Maybe he met them all on IRC... I'm sure there is a joke there somewhere for the channel name.

I would imagine he uses the exact same tone of voice that he uses for everything else he says: owing, of course, to his trusty voice box. Maybe people think he is telling jokes, when in actual fact he is pleading for help.

Seriously though, inflexion must quite tough for the old Prof., unless Texas instruments have made some radical progress in the past decade with their integrated circuits; and just think how close we are to ground-breaking, nano-technology based voice synthesis...

The prof. has just been released from hospital, so it looks like he could hang on for a bit longer yet. I think he will be a strong candidate for next year providing the mystery attacks and the bouts of pneumonia continue.

"The physicist Professor Stephen Hawking has been moved to a specialist heart and lung hospital, Papworth Hospital in Cambridge, after being admitted to the city's Addenbrooke's Hospital last week. He is said to be having treatment for pnuemonia and his condition is described as stable. Cambridge University, where Professor Hawking is mathematics professor, was unable to say why he had been moved. "He had gone back to Addenbrooke's a few days ago in relation to the pneumonia he was being treated for in December and January", a spokeswoman said. Professor Hawking, 62, who has motor neurone disease, sprang to fame more than a decade ago after publication of his bestselling history of the universe, A Brief History Of Time

Avid Deathlisters who have been watching this thread like a Hawk will no doubt be interested in this "scientific discovery", from today's Indie:

Why, with all the advances of science at his disposal, does Stephen Hawking speak with an American accent on his electronic voice box? [A question we all want to know the answer to!] The actor Benedict Cumberbatch, who plays the professor in the BBC2 film about him tonight, was provided with the answer when the two met before filming. Asked why he hadn't changed the voice box accent to English, Hawking replied: "I find that American and Scandinavian accents work better with women.

Hawking, recounting the drama of the early life of the Professor, is on BBC2 tonight at 9pm. Might be worth a watch.
