Not a death, but the family of "Mr. Hockey" himself, Gordie Howe, has revealed that he's battling the early stages of dementia. Doesn't sound like he's in any immediate danger, but probably something to keep an eye on.

I'd say he has about 5 years or so left in him depending on other health issues.
My gran suffered from dementia for about 30 years.
it got steadily worse until she passed away at the age of 86

A good line never dies
It just smells funny

Montreal Canadiens' legend Butch Bouchard died at the ripe age of 92.
He was in my dead pool last year- oh well, that is the way the puck bounces.

The last 'position player' to substitute as a goalie in an NHL game, Jerry Toppazzini, has died. He was actually a fairly notable player in Northern Ontario.

After the dismal showing by New Jersey Devils players in the Stanley Cup Finals, I have a feeling Martin Brodeur wishes he were out of the life picture (at least for a little while)

Summit Series hero, Paul Henderson, (as mentioned before) has a rare form of leukemia has spread and is now 'living on a death sentence' with 'not much time left'. Hopefully he holds out until 2013.
