If I'm not mistaken, Vera Lynn appeared at last year's VE ceremonies. Has her health declined since then?

Tried to recommend that we commemorate the 60th anniversary by throwing Vera over the White Cliffs of Dover...

Her war effort, or noise pollution, drove up volunteering for the forces by making the front seem less scary than musical halls at home.

True. Both sides preferred to listen to Lili Marlene

Vera was Hitler's secret weapon designed to bore the British into submission.

This is an even better site:

I particularly like the 6th Panzergrenadier Division version:

http://ingeb.org/garb/lmarleen.html

Imagine all those panzers revving up on the other side of the channel, armed with their Marlene Dietrich 88s. While all we had was Vera and popgun lyrics like this:

"The shepherd will tend his sheep,
The valley will bloom again
And Jimmy will go to sleep,
In his own little room again."
Ring down the curtain, the farce is over

afaik Dame Vera is in good health.
probably Bettie Page would be a better pick

A good line never dies
It just smells funny

Interesting discussion.

From experience, I can tell you that this sort of thread arguement will actually make people think that you are both arseholes. :D

Well hello, wtf is going on here then?

Have I missed something or has a fight really broken out between deathlisters over Vera Lyn?

Vera Lyn incites anarchy!

Whatever next? I'm going back inside to get my pint.
I am the crow king!

I can do anything!

Any Editors Out There? Gissa B-Job... www.pitcherthis.co.uk

Please.

I've just noticed the cunning moderation of my above signature. I'd like to thank the rogue moderator responsible and also add- prospective editors, please note that a B-Job would go down just as well as a proper one. Quite possibly even more so.

I can feel a ban coming on - or at very least I suspect they will become under privileged members like the late Tempus Fugit.

There seems to be some misunderstanding here. The title "2006 Names" means this is the thread to discuss people who have been nominated for the 2006 DL, with this particular sub-thread focusing on Vera Lynn. It is not an encouragement for DL members engaged in silly tiffs to come up with 2,006 different rude names to call one other.

Not sure if non moderators have the facility to send each other e-mails, but if they do could the parties in question please restrict your cursing each other out that way. In the meantime, shall we get back to the interesting and productive posts of which we're all capable.

Not late anymore Winnie it was a Maybe at one point in time but later
became a definite.

I don't really think Tempus is under privileged in any way? After all
he is like you.

This is true my form is something odd,
