there are a LOT of holes in the whole thing, for one it was 2 WHOLE YEARS before the British Government launched an official investigation. I do not believe Maggie Thatcher would hold off on such a thing unless she was pressured to do so, most likely by the US, you imagine she would be demanding answers straight away. I read that there a Syrian intelligence officer was considered a prime suspect, he had experience in the kind of method of bombing that it was attributed to, but wasn't pursued cause the Yanks were trying to get Syria 'on side' at the time. There is definitely enough compelling evidence for the investigation to be re-opened, a number of the victim's relatives are sceptical of Al-megrahi's guilt, it should be noted. However both the UK and US Governments will likely do everything they can to stop this from ever happening, probably a whole load of embarrassing skeletons waiting to be unearthed...

Maryport is a disappointment for which there is no cure, but the annual Deathrace thread hereabouts provides welcome distraction.

I reckon the whole affair has been virtually nothing but shady dealings from day one!

Can't keep this guy out of the news. Nothing to do with his health, admittedly.

People often outlive the prognosis, I knew someone who did, was no fun that's for sure

I'm sure I just saw this mug on the news protesting loud and proud in Benghazi... He was shouting something about giving the North Sea Oil back to Scotland. Hmmmm.

It'd be a laugh if the seething rebellion at home scared him to the point he asked the UK for political asylum, mind.

Heaven's on the pillow, its silence competes with hell
It's a twenty-four hour service, guaranteed to make you tell

Bent on getting hung and buried
And the legendary curtains are drawn 'round Baby Bankrupt

It's the theatre of financiers
Count them, fifty 'round a table
White and dressed to kill."

If he really blackmailed Gaddafi I'd imagine he probably would have died within three months of returning home...

Hero's welcome he received would have been rather unlikely
