I'm guessing the DDP and HPDP will throw up loads of candidates fit for a paragraph and unfit for a busy thread or proper obit. Mebbe a good idea to collect such creatures on one thread so's those of us with an - ahem - sporting interest can keep tabs on 'em.

I'll cop for having such an interest in Rachil Jonze, who might just be this year's Ms Groves.

Similarly Ian McNicol may afford us that combination of brief media coverage and ongoing ranter fire we've come to know and love over the years.

and

Dawn Hughes' illness was the subject of television coverage as part of Channel 4's 'Mummy Diaries.' She's also made appearances on BBC television and the BBC web site, her husband works for the Beeb.

Then there's everyone's favourite pin up: Winnie Langley. I took a long-shot punt on her for the DDP mainly because I thought if she went the various papers who'd covered her 100th birthday wouldn't be able to resist running that great picture again.

Anyone else gonna cop for long shot picks before OoO and NAP do their duty and reveal all?

Candinal Paul Shan Kuo-hsi
Catholic candinals get US AP obits...don't know anout UK
2008 DDP: 15th place.
2009 DDP: 25th place.
2010 DDP: 12th place.
2011 DDP: 12th place.
2012 DDP: 6th place.

DEATH be not proud, though some have called thee
Mighty and dreadfull, for, thou art not so,
For, those, whom thou think'st, thou dost overthrow,
Die not, poore death, nor yet canst thou kill me.

Um.....how do I break this news to you MaryPortO'FunCity? I never heard of any of the folks you mentioned.

For my own I of course must submit Unkie Wilfie (Wilford Brimley) if we can somehow slip some sugar into his insulin injections it will all be done. Or maybe change his insulin into gin or vodka? Maybe not.

THat Pope guy over in The Badican looks about ready for death.....although he looked much more so before they threw that top heavy hat on his head. Come to think of it he's starting to look healthy.

I think for a real long shot we might as well throw in the towels on the two tenors....Placido Domingo and Jose Carreras.

Bruno man, just say it. I've never heard of loads of the picks in the 2029 names listed on DDP either.

Dooce, for example, was a new one on me. Impressed to see so many teams get unique picks in such a crowded deadpool. Win or lose, we all stand to be educated.

Planning for 2029 already are we? I've heard of planning in advance but that seems a might bit overly eager to get a jump start on casket carving........

Steve Smith, dropped over 18m on the lottery and packs a heart condition that could see him off in seconds. A death that would be reported in all the tabloids as and when. Assuming he's breathing on New Years Eve I think he's worth fielding on the 09 DDP.

I wouldn't bank on it, mpfc... with all that lucre at his disposal, he'll probably pull a Sharon on you.

Linked article mentions Mike Donovan, 39 year old uncle of Shannon Matthews' step-dad slashed his wrists and took an overdose in jail. Scheduled for trail in November, before this little hiccup threatened a delay. Assuming he sees out the year and the eventual trial kicks off this year there could be deadpool points in the offing.

Another one qualifying for DDP points someday might be Rachel Leake. Tragic all round, her daughter dies but hasn't done the required creating of an evidence trail to allow her kidneys to save Rachel, so they use her organs to save three other lives instead.

If she died in 2009, the national press would do an article for sure.

How about Simon Pretty? He's not in the least bit famous. but is in the papers because he has effectively been given a death sentence by his sister, who refuses to donate bone marrow, which is the only suitable match to treat his leukemia.

Also Feziwe Radebe, 33, wife of former Leeds legend Lucas Radebe, is suffering from cancer again, her chances don't look too good.

A man from Milton Keynes is set to win £5,000 betting on his own life.

Quote

Doctors diagnosed Jon Matthews with a rare form of lung cancer in April 2007 and gave him nine months to live. But Mr Matthews, 58, made a £100 bet at 50 to one with William Hill bookmakers that he would beat the survival time for this condition.

Well......that's going to open up the deathlist, aint it? We might as well include all teenagers in the UK (predominenty Peckham - obviously). Given the UK's "yoots" slavishly follow the US, it's only a matter of time before one of these nutters takes his homework (ie a loaded Uzi) into school.

Thank God for the power of socialist teachers in the 70s (irony, by the way). I just hope that they are selected by the feral gangs for a particulary BAD example of violence.

Debbie Purd-y, low hanging fruit of the future with a high profile in the present.

Yeh, yeh, I know. But she'd count on the HPDP if picked.

Debbie Purd-y loses in court, but in the process probably ensures she'll stay in the public eye a bit longer.

I'm not the only one with Trudi Endersby sitting on my deadpool teams or holding a joker. I'm starting to think the unthinkable, that the woman who was a poster girl for lung cancer and the death sentence it brings might - like - see 2009. Anyone got any inside information they'd care to share?

Now homeless and living her 15 minutes Warhol time, Beatrice Muller, 89. Ex-permenant residence, the QEII.

The old-age pension goes along way for some, 3,500 a month! Avoided the economic crisis that's for sure.

Noel Martzin - yeah, I know you don't spell it like that, but I'm wary of ranter fire where he's concerned.

Deffo press coverage as and when. Would qualify under 08 DDP rules. Be interesting to see if he'd do the same next year.

Couldn't you have kept this between ourselves? ;)

Seriously though, a decent punt (9 points for age + 3 for suicide).... :P

Mr Odstock has already said famous for being ill are allowed. I suggest you read his rules & post before being so silly.

Nice to see you are not changing your tune & choosing sick nobodies.
