A good choice, he's got Emphysema and lung cancer,

not to mention having a very unhealthy lifestyle and being obese.

I can see him dropping dead while performing his awfully good jazz.

His heart may have just suffered a pounding considering xmas/new year.
He doesnt look the type to gith his heart a rest from Grease and Sugar and Lard and Salt on even a normal occasion.

Nothing to do with his sexual preferences back then,

just the fact he's known to enjoy cannabis and until recently a lot of whisky.

Combine that with his obesity and the fact he worked in very unhealthy Jazz club environs for decades.

I'm surprised he's still alive.

In common with a lot of people on this year's list I think George Melly is a bit of a wasted contender. See him a lt around the West End and he seems to be in rude health. Overweight yes but miles and miles away from death's door.

Perhaps you could draw up a rota, or maybe divide the threads amongst yourselves to avoid duplication of effort? It'd be a shame to have you fall out over who can post the most links.
