It's kinda embarrassing really, like a lot of wiggers my age it was the Beasties who first got me into rap music back in the mid 90s, but fuck me if I don't find all of their stuff, with the possibly exception of "Hey Ladies", absolutely unlistenable now. So in tribute, here's a song where Serch calls MCA a cunt repeatedly and threatens to kill him:

Rest in Peace man :(. My friends and I have been listening to nothing but Beastie Boys since the news.

I considered him for this year's list, but by all accounts he was getting better and I didn't think cancer of the salivary gland was that deadly. Good job to Misers though. Maybe another cancer-ridden musician will go this year, preferably one who's also part of a famous trio and claims to be on the mend as well :evil2:.

Whoops. Hit quote instead of edit. Can someone delete the first post?

I can't say this chap has impinged on my consciousness before, but I dare say Mr Cooley will know all about him - hip hop impresario Chris Lighty bucks a trend by not being shot dead by somebody other than himself.

He has yet to receive an obituary in the Daily Telegraph, let it be noted.

Here's a penny for your thoughts; incidentally, you may keep the change

I remember Violator records. I wish I didn't.

He does get a BBC obit, though.

Violator Records... Weren't they responsible for 50 Cent and Fat Joe, and for allowing Swizz Beats to do something other than produce?

Yeah, no tears shed for this dude.

Up-and-coming rapper Capital STEEZ AKA Jamal Dewar, best known for being featured on what was probably my favorite hip-hop single of 2012, has committed suicide at 19.

Surely there can be no greater example of the increasing caucasianisation of hip-hop than the fact that rappers are now starting to commit suicide?

And what rough beast, its hour come round at last,
Slouches towards Bethlehem to be born?
