A tremendous shame - I always enjoyed his movies - one of the last of a fast dwindling era. Many memories of the man but I always liked his turn in Cheyenne Autumn.

So, a sad day, not least because dear old Mollie Sugden has gone too, but 97 isn't a bad age.

Phew.. looks like a big update for the DDP tomorrow then!

Interesting to see that:

1) He was born in Gary, Indiana, just like Michael Jackson

2) He died exactly 5 years after his co-star in "On The Waterfront", Marlon Brando...

According to the LA Times article, he was born in Chicago, and only moved to Gary, Indiana, when 5.

Interestingly, I notice that his website is under construction, with an update due 2009. Wont be much to update now!

A sad day indeed, how much press will they get with all the Jackson crap? Not much I fear.

It mentions Fatal Vision which was brilliant: A TV mini-series as good as any of the best movies of that time..

RIP Karl...

He was a brilliant actor, probably remember him best from Streetcar or Gypsy. Sad that he didn't get wider recognition... mentioned it to my wife today and she was like "Who's that". Yet when the BBC reported Mollie Sugden had died she was narking on about it for ages.... argh women

I cannot express the joy I feel. This rounds out the week after our dear Farrah and Michael. My prayers are with Betty Ford and Nancy Reagan. May they meet their makers soon as well. :banghead:
