Last I heard Freddie was running an airline in the Bahamas or somewhere similar. Doing OK and making a living. Great guy, I wish him well.

For some reason, I was almost certain that Cliff Michelmore was deceased, but a quick google has failed to uncover evidence of that - maybe I was thinking of someone else.

And I was at school with a nephew of Harry Rabinowitz - Jason I think his name was.

Comedian Eric Sykes is "deaf, has failing eyesight, has suffered a stroke and undergone a heart bypass operation" according to the BBC. I'm not sure if he is famous enough internationally but he was the highest-paid scriptwriter of 1950s Britain and did the voiceover for the Teletubbies!

The man is a genius. He would probably be much more famous than he is, except that he has tended to save his best efforts for work for which others would get the plaudits. He seems far too humble to accept well-deserved credit. Spike Milligan owed a huge debt to him, not only for all the work they did together, but also for his unbending support during Spike's many periods of doubt, depression and illness.

I salute him and wish him good health for many years to come.
