I just checked the poll results on the bbc website:

 

Labour: 353 seats

Conservatives: 194 seats

Liberal democrats: 59 seats

SNP: 6 seats

PC: 3 seats

IKHH: 1 seat

Others: 2 seats

 

 

With 618 of the 646 seats already declared, Tony Blair's party has won another majority and has secured a historic third term.

Conservative 33% of the vote 32% of the seats

Lib Dems 23% of the vote 10% of the seats...

good news for those unhappy with the UK election result - the addition of 10 new countries to the EC last year has given you an additional 40% in terms of new destinations to choose to move to without having to worry about visas, work permits, etc. I've been to Warsaw a few times and parts of it, especially the old town, are wonderful. The women have some of the best cheek bone structures anywhere, and I'm sure the Polish government would welcome some replacements for all their countrymen who've been moving to Britain.

 

On a related note, the US is still waiting for Alec Baldwin to live up to his promise to leave if Bush got elected 4 1/2 years ago.

I congratulate Labour with a historic third straight victory. I wonder though if the UK should be congratulated with the result.

I would prefer to read the word "historic" a few less times today than I have done already.

 

As regards Mr Josco, we can confidently assume he is still counting votes as his constituency is traditionally the last one to declare.

 

Interesting to see that the sitting MP (who will undoubtedly get in again) studied international politics with Henry Kissinger. Seems otherwise quite sensible, though.

You are correct my old Spud, it has the one of the largest areas of any constituency and is the last to declare. Not sure how you knew it was mine as most of my colleagues are surprised that my home falls into Skipton & Ripon area.

 

Don't think much of the incumbent as he very pro Europe, and we never see him out on the stump.

 

The election result is possibly the best one could have hoped for under the circumstances, not ideal but then M Howard has 'something of the night about him'. Perhaps we should use him as DL mascot.

 

The only question is can the handover to G Brown (twunt) be measured in months or weeks?

Well done to Mr Howard- a great campaign and a great unifier. It's a shame he has resigned. He would make such a good Prime Minister!

 

Good election night coverage on the beeb (not so sure about that bloody paint the country thing though!)- nice banter with Paxman and his interviewees. Glad to see Boris Johnson was around he is great!

 

Anyway wait until 2009/2010 when a glorious Conservative govt. will be formed! Hopefully Theresa May (Baronness Thatcher mk2) or Dr Liam Fox will take over as leader and form a 'New new right' administration!!!
