This wasn't contemplated when they created the inventors thread:

Chef Peng Chang-kuei (彭長貴), the founder of the famous Hunan-style restaurant chain Peng's Garden Hunan Restaurant (彭園湘菜館) and inventor of the world famous Chinese dish General Tso's Chicken, died on Nov. 30 at the age of 98 from Pneumonia.

Creator of Siri, the artificial intelligence, Dag Kittlaus, has pancreatic cancer:

http://www.recode.net/2017/1/12/14230982/siri-creator-dag-kittlaus-exam-pancreatic-tumor-silicon-valley

It is the low-aggressive kind that killed Steve Jobs. Kittlaus does not seem to share Jobs' preference for 'alternative treatment' however.

FFS! Never had him going so soon, Mediterranean born etc, I was sure he had 10-15 years in him.

I'm going to miss a ton of Beatles related deaths this year, I know it...

I thought about putting this in The Beatles thread, couldn't decide where was more fitting! I agree, he's relatively young - says he died of pneumonia.

Brit on the Manhatten Project, Cambridge physicist Anthony French, died aged 96 in early February.

My memory was telling me he was a pick on the DDP before, but the website says I'm wrong.

Craig Venter, first mapper of the human genome, had prostate cancer, as you might recall. But the tumour has been removed:

http://www.forbes.com/sites/matthewherper/2017/02/21/can-craig-venter-cheat-death/#4a2f9c683242

The article also mentions that Nobel Laureate Hamilton Smith had a deadly lung tumour, but after surgery, his prognosis is good.
