Don Griffin, guitarist with The Miracles and brother of Billy Griffin, 60, traffic accident. http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/guitarist-don-griffin-dead-at-821167

Probably the hit he will remembered for with The Miracles:

As noted he also played guitar on the multi-Grammy winning artist Anita Baker on her multi-platinum multi-Grammy award winning album Rapture; both of which I was admonished for expecting Brits to be aware of and her Obit already written and awaiting publication. Oh no, was told she's a nobody.

Pfft.

Prog rock singer and bassist John Wetton (Asia / King Crimson / UK / many other groups) is definitely one worth keeping an eye on. 66 years old and has been through alcoholism, heart surgery, diabetes and had cancer surgery earlier this year and last month new cancer was discovered and he underwent chemo - that's as much as we know.

He was fit enough to go to a recent King Crimson gig though, and was looking slimmer than he used to. There's a very recent photo of him here, further down the page:

Gary Richrath, former lead guitarist of REO Speedwagon, couldn't fight this feeling anymore and curls up his toes at 65. https://au.news.yahoo.com/entertainment/a/29521018/reo-speedwagon-guitarist-dies/

Find My Fortune:

He must live next door to you (or did lol) cuz earliest I see a news clip over here is like 3 hours later. Well done as usual Y-Dub.

Retro-funk singer Sharon Jones's pancreatic cancer is back:

http://www.wrdw.com/home/headlines/Sharon-Jones-fighting-new-battle-with-cancer-327209981.html

It was originally diagnosed as stage II. I guess she's on the cusp of obitability, having been nominated for a Grammy after her first cancer fight in 2014, and an appearance on BBC TV in February 2015.

Way beyond the cusp, BBC obit guaranteed as well as probably being the lead obit that day in the Guardian. Would probably even get a tribute show on Radio 2 actually.

Oh wow.... I was having my doubts because so far, the news has only been announced on a local US station, the Toronto Star, and specialist magazines. But my research wasn't all that deep, obviously.

Neo-soul is a terrible genre but it's a terrible genre with lots of middle class journo fans.

There's also the Amy Winehouse connection - Sharon's band the Dap Kings also recorded with Amy.

Bar-Kays founder member Ben Cauley dead at 67. He was the only survivor of the plane crash that claimed the lives of Otis Redding and four other Bar-Kays members.

Oft-discussed Christy Dignam says he's "living every day like it's his last" and his body is operating at about 2/3 right now. Would assume he sees out 2015 but something tells me there's not much more petrol left in the tank. If any of the DL committee have Irish roots he'd be a nice pick next year.

Nailed on, but - serious question - UK obit chances with regard to the exacting standards of the DDP?

I'll say here and now he's bound to get qualifying coverage for Deathrace purposes.

Dragging the bowels of the DDP obits, but UTV will cover it when he goes, I'd assume (they cover his fund raising stuff), and The Scotsman or The Record. Which wouldn't be needed, as The Express have covered his health.

Or to put it another, I doubt a mid 50s lead singer of a fairly known Irish band has much to worry about in terms of obits!

Nice one, so he just has to worry about 3 months of living like it's his last day.

We'll worry about the obits.
