Lawyers representing dead rocker Randy California sue Led Zeppelin for plagiarism over Stairway to Heaven: http://www.abc.net.a...-spirit/5857688

'bout fuckin' time frankly, quite a few DJs (myself included once over) have bored listeners by putting "Taurus" back to back with "Stairway to Heaven." Bring on It's a Beautiful Day dragging the surviving Deep Purple Mk 2s into court to question the parentage of "Child in Time." None of these people at the time seriously thought they were writing music that would have such staying power, or so many lawyers making money off it 45 years later.

Oh aye, and The Blues Magoos might have summat to say about Deep Purple's "Black Night"...I could go on but, rant over!

Jon Lord never hid that fact though - quite the opposite!

The thing about Stairway is that Randy California had all the time in the world to sue but didn't, because all he wanted was a thank you or acknowledgement from the Zep boys. Which never came. Now, whoever holds rights to his music must see this as an easy money maker. From memory, California's band toured with Zeppelin in the late 60s, playing Taurus as part of their gig. Within a few years, Zep release a highly familiar sounding song. Its a bigger open and shut case than My Sweet Lord.

Funnily enough, I was reading up the other day about the Nirvana/Killing Joke/Damned imbroglio over the former's 'Come As You Are' being a rip off of the middle's 'Eighties' which in turn bears some similarity to the latter's 'Life Goes On'.

Trivia fact which, I think, is true; that moment in Spinal Tap where it is revealed the beautiful piano melody is called "Lick my Love Pump"...Jon Lord wrote that little piano piece.

Atlanta is in Georgia , so , frankly my dear...I don't give a damn.

Plus the real Georgia has the Algeti Wolves, now that would be a great name for a band.

Polish metal band Behemoth's frontman Nergal rushed to hospital with a blood illness, having been sick for several days .

SC

http://www.thegauntlet.com/article/568/19774/Behemoth-frontman-rushed-to-the-hospital.html

There might be more going on, he has leukemia:

http://loudwire.com/behemoth-nergal-leukemia-diagnosis-burst-into-tears/

Initially, I decided against including him in my potential candidate list, because he appeared to be in a relatively uplifting mood during a couple of recent interviews, but maybe that wasn't the whole truth.

With all due respect to Polish metal in general and Behemoth specifically, he would seem to have an angel's chance in hell of getting an obit. But you'd know better than I.

My list is not just for the DDP, but for other pools on this site as well and somewhere, he'll definitely obit.

Yeah! Online somewhere like Mojo or Uncut would count for the Deathrace.

Cool. I post for general purposes as well, without being terribly concerned for DDP or DL, but the obit Q tends to pop up.

Just me obviously but...

With the trial of Phil Rudd underway I'm thinking how much better to do music industry jobs come than AC/DC drummer? You have to be good, not great. If Lars Ulrich died it would be a hell of a job to replace him but, within reason, AC/DC could keep going with a different drummer every week. So you get the biggest crowds, best hotels, work like fuck for one year in five and earn the kind of money that allows you to collect cars as a hobby. All that, and most of the time the crowd are looking out for the guys in front of you, so you could leave the hotel without anyone much getting in your face or grabbing you for a selfie.

How many of us would piss that away?

Guys are you really sure that this isn't an archived post?

The link you gave brought me to a post with a timestamp from 2010 and a comment that was 5 years old. So isn't this the same leukaemia ordeal that he already survived?

Could be, they fool me on rare occasions but I definitely look for a current date. Never heard of him/them so if he's survived an ordeal it's safe to say you're correct.
