The Chequered Flag

Former racing driver and Bond stunt driver Neil Cunningham has reportedly lost his battle with Motor Neurone Disease: https://twitter.com/SportmphMark/status/735424277500055552 and https://twitter.com/BritishGT/status/735414216144912389

Further to this story: http://www.walesonline.co.uk/news/local-news/bond-stuntman-neil-cunningham-battle-2028806 and mentioned in OoO's Farewell List here: http://www.deathlist.net/forums/index.php?showtopic=8379&p=202909

Obviously awaiting formal news report to confirm and preferably a qualifying obit for the DDP team who picked him.

When those bastard racing car designers build those F3 crates so well they withstand shunts like the one linked below, it mocks our sterling efforts to call premature time on a few lives, eh:

This forum and my DPs are cursed every time I see a new post herein and Tony Adamowitz isn't the topic. DIE you brain cancer fool DIE! Yes for once I'm rooting, I really need the points his late-December lying ass would provide.

No, along with the road races in Northern Ireland it's just insanely dangerous by comparison to the safer forms of motorcycle racing which offer proper run off areas and tracks designed for safety. Basically the TT and its relatives turn public roads into racetracks and present kerbs, fence posts and other day to day hazards to trap anyone making a minor mistake whilst travelling on two wheels at more than 100mph.

If you're not too squeamish youtube has a collection of clips from mobile phones and the like wherein motorcyclists and the occasional sidecar passenger are slaughtered and seriously injured with the added "fucking hell" and "oh my God" interjections of bystanders. One of the grimmest elements of the whole set up being the proximity of the public to these serious accidents. There remains the possibility of a Le Mans 1955 stylee wipe out in which crashing competitors punt each other into the crowd and the slaughter takes on a scale that threatens to end the whole event.

More races in the south now and on smaller roads, but we still have 2 international races where speeds can reach 200mph.

Aye, thought I might point out that the TT co-incides with the early stages of the MMMDP, assuming I hold another one next year. I mean. you'd need to know your reckless competitors really well, but it'd be an inspired punt up there with America's champion school janitor to sneak such a win, eh?

Update on mingay.

Basically his jaw came off.

Stadium Super Trucks driver Matt Mingay underwent surgery to insert a prosthetic chin earlier this week, per the latest report from the driver’s Facebook page. A crash at Detroit’s Belle Isle street circuit peeled open the top of his truck, leaving Mingay with severe facial injuries.

The positive Facebook update from Matt’s wife Sheena confirmed that the driver is in recovery now, and she even jokes that Matt’s tattoos are a bit of a culture shock for the Detroit doctors treating him:

Matt Mingay was yesterday released from critical care and remains in icu at
where he remains in a serious but stable condition. Matt was released from surgery last night at 7:30pm after undergoing an extensive 5 hour surgery to insert a prosthetic chin to rebuild his jaw and mouth region. He has been responding well to treatment and will no doubt be counting down the days till his back out on track and wowing fans again. He has some of America’s finest surgeons working around the clock giving him the best possible care, although they can’t get over how many tattoos this crazy Australian Stunt Man has.

Off topic:

What's happening with the youtube clips? Is embedding suddenly not possible anymore?

Yet another death at the TT today, just announced on Twitter that Ian Bell died after an accident in the sidecars. Four so far this year, three of which were sidecar competitors. Not a great couple of weeks for the motorcycle world.

Beyond a joke now, another death this afternoon in the Senior TT, Andrew Soar. That's five in total, only one short of the record 6 in 1970 I believe.

they should stop races there's obviously a massive safety risk thats endangering their lives. Racing should resume once the problem is fixed.

In 2013, 785 people died in car accidents in the UK. Let's ban cars.

Those already dead this year knew the risks and chose to race despite the fact there are - near enough - deaths every year.

May I kindly ask that no one post anything in this thread unless it's updating the near death or demolish of one Tony Adamowitz. Every time the thread is lit up with a new post I get to dreaming my dreamy little dreams only to be once again disappointed. Quit hurting my feelings. Us Yanks have feelings too, you know.

Yours, etc
