Authors Last A Long Time, But....

Recommended Posts

Yeah, short of a sudden heart attack or catching the wrong plane, Bond won't be a shoo in for ages yet. Some authors do last a long time.

Yeh particularly children's authors here are a few more who have reached a grand old age.

Shirley Hughes who wrote the Alfie books born 1927Nicolas Fisk (aka David Higgenbottom) author of Kids sci-fi books like Grinny, Trillions and Starstormers born 1923

Eric Carle (The Very Hungry Caterpillar) born 1929

No health information about any of these but just by age alone they are worthy of consideration.

Report of the death of Nicholas Fisk at 92. https://twitter.com/LCecilLitAgency/status/729985447397609472

Awaiting news reports/qo for BiblioG's DDP team.

Is he dead or not?

Good question. Those who should be in the know on Twitter say he is, but there's been no word from any news sources as yet. At this point, he's this year's Judy Carne. I'm giving it until Monday night for some form of report to appear, if not, I'll take him off the round up.

I hate when this happens and it also happened with Madeleine Lebeau. Media don't give a fuck about old forgotten celebrities and when they die they are still alive... on Wikipedia.
shut up about Madeline lebeau why do you care so much couldn't you have pm predictor instead of spamming the forum with the proverbial droll of your mouth.

I have a personal deathlist with 9 hits but I don't know how to put it online.

The age given in the tweet is 94. He is actually 92. But why post this otherwise. If this were true I would expect the Guardian or Telegraph to be all over it.

Looks like this is true and Guardian will probably have something later in the day or tomorrow.

Unique points for me on DDP.

Well, right after all! However, the obit says he was 94 but that doesn't tie in with the DOB/DOD at the bottom. Not so much Judy Carne as Doris Day...

I pointed that out to them.

No that we are sure he is dead I thought Nicholas Fisk's books were great. When I first went to secondary school we were all taken to the library in an English lesson and told to pick a reading book. I selected Wheelie in the Stars. I then went on to read Trillions, Star-Stormers, Grinny and On The Flip Side.

I was cross it took the media so long to give him the obit.

Think this might be the first time I ever seen someone have a go at themselves for posting in the wrong thread.

Lois Duncan, aged 82.

She wrote I Know What You Did Last Summer, and lots of other teen novels which I assume are similar. One of those names that was always on a shelf in Waterstones or Oxfam back in the day, but I never troubled to read.

Deathrace material for sure, but that's asking a lot of the prognosis, eh/

How is the Old Peter Esterhazy? He seemed to be in his final hours around one month ago.

I'm guessing you'd need imagination on an industrial scale to enjoy sex with Robert Maxwell.

The most usual and common form of pancreatic cancer (pancreatic adenocarcinoma) is usually terminal, but he seems to have been suspiciously active in the last 8 months (since his illness was announced).

He has even written a book about his cancer, which is not unusal for Hungarian writers, but the fact that he is still active hints at a somewhat better prognosis (perhaps he still has a few more months (?)).
