Here is interesting New York Times interview with Chopper Read from about 2 weeks ago. He declined to talk about his health but the tone of the article suggests the writer thinks he is close to death.

He was applying for a new gun licence(!) on the news here the other day so I don't think he's that close yet.

EDIT: Added link.

I n ote that Hazel Hawke is the 3rd 'first lady' of Australia to die in the past 3 years, along with Sonia McMahon and Margaret Whitlam. The last PM to die was way back in 2002 when John Gorton died,so we're way overdue a prime ministerial death. Gough Whitlam, what are you waiting for!

Health update on Chopper Read after awkward advertisement placed midway through the article.

"I went skeet shooting in Queensland. I like it. I'm pretty good at it too. As soon as it comes out of the trap I go ... bang, bang."

Yeah....... that's the general idea...

Tonight's news headline is that Judith Durham has suffered a brain haemorrhage. http://www.abc.net.a...ham-ill/4691138

Slowly on the mend:

Judith Durham of The Seekers is continuing to make positive improvement following a stroke after her Melbourne concert last week.

Durham's manager Graham Simpson has updated fans on the singer's progress and reports she is in good spirits and looking forward to the challenge of recovery.

"I'm pleased to be able to let you know that after being assessed yesterday (Tuesday) by the head of the Rehabilitation Unit at Epworth Hospital yesterday, Judith will be transferred to the unit on Friday for further treatment," Graham said.

"After speaking with Judith's neurologist this morning, I can report that while Judith's everyday conversational speech is fluent, her processing of higher function speech and complex questions is impaired.

"On a positive note, during one of their meetings, Judith's neurologist asked her to sing him something and, without prompting, she was able to correctly sing the first verse of Morningtown Ride, completely in tune.

"Later in the afternoon, pleased with her progress, she asked me to test her on other songs, and she was able to sing to me - without a problem - the first verses of I'll Never Find Another You, Come The Day and I Celebrate Your Life My Baby.

"Judith is looking forward to the challenges of rehabilitation and is determined to continue improving.

Mandawuy Yunupingu rushed to hospital. According to the article, he "has been a renal patient for the last five years."

If he survives this, he might be good for the 2013 list.

Except no one knows who he the hell he is.

Dead. Former Australian of the Year and lead vocalist of the most famous Aboriginal rock band so it will be interesting to see if he does get that UK obit since you Brits have never heard of him.

I hope they do something to honour his memory...that would be nice.

For those of you who have been following the rivalry between Gillard and the man she deposed, Kevin Rudd, I think we can now safely predict the Gillard Government will die in a horrendous bloodbath at the election in less than 100 days. When MPs are already packing their offices in the knowledge they will lose their seats, you know things are bad:

Predicting the death of the Australian Labour party Davey???

Personally I became disenfranchised with them when KRudd was deposed as PM, the entire thing has remained stagnate since then (the only + is the ongoing royal commission into child sexual abuse in state and religious institutions, which should have happened decades ago anyway) However the recent event of ordering the navy to call off the search for an asylum seeker vessel that sank a few days ago off Christmas island, Then not to recover the bodies they did find, just made me angry - not that I'm an angry person mind. This just seems to be a total disregard for human dignity in this situation.

anyway that's my soapbox moment...back to posting funny "share a coke with..." names
