What about Anders Breivik?

He might end up killing himself in prison...

He had ample time to kill himself when he committed that massacre.

Knowing the bastard he'll escape prison. From a 24-hr news perspective that would probably be the most exciting news event ever!

Nah, he ain't going anywhere

The Myanmar government has freed 33-year-old death row inmate Phyo Wai Aung, who allegedly committed a bombing in 2010 and has since become a human rights cause, due to the fact that he is suffering from liver cancer and is paralyzed from the waist down because of it.

Tobin's back in jail now, but he's 65 and packing secrets. A psychotherapist I know keeps telling me men block anger in their chests and this can be devastating in bringing about heart disease etc. Tobin has issues for sure; this ain't over and he's a nailed-on newspaper cert when it gets really bad.

Gregory Powell

"Gregory Powell, who was convicted of killing a Los Angeles police officer during an infamous kidnapping that inspired Joseph Wambaugh's true-life crime book "The Onion Field," has died in prison at age 79".

James Woods played his character in the film of the book. Book and film both excellent in my view, despite featuring Ted Danson playing the bagpipes!

We might want to move Stuart Hazell; underclass scum of the Karen Matthews standard to the prison thread since he's unlikely to find himself a free man and was even giving evidence via video-link today, sparing us the sight of massed ranks of his former neighbours attempting to turn over the prison-van and rip his still-beating heart out to stamp it to death on the road. Enormity of crime related suicide, vicious attack from fellow inmate etc...possible.

But now he's behind bars there might be no more Tias in Heaven.

Xolile Mngeni, whose health could be crucial in influencing the result of this year's DDP, was in court today. He doesn't appear to be very well but I'm not at all sure he won't stagger in to 2013. Lots of UK press interest in his case, though.

I think you and I have slipped up with Xolile DDT.

Defense lawyer health exaggerations are notorious. Wouldn't surprise me if he just rots in a South African Jail for years to come. If he dies once the trial is done and dusted, I'm not sure he would get an obit anyway.

Anyhow, even though Gregory Powell is another hit for me i couldn't hold back the tears. Must be the Onions.

While we are in this thread. Stuart Hazel (the guy who ALLEGEDLY killed Tia Sharp) maybe one to watch. He does seem the sort of idiot who would refuse the protective custody option and take his chances in gen pop. The Gen pop option would almost certainly end up with one result.

He's got his UK obit as well. Between Waddell, Dokes and Powell it's a big week at the top of the DDP standings.

He has been on my list for the last 4 years, I think I had him as a unique pick the first time, but since then I have posted about him a couple of times on here and I see others have included him on their lists. An obituary is guaranteed, on my way to DL Con V on Friday I had 3 hours to kick about Newcastle Airport, picked up a copy of The Daily Record - Scotlands 'premier' tabloid - and Tobin's illness was on the front page. He is a seriously nasty piece of work and has issues, as MPFC has said, coupled with a heart problem. His death will certainly make headlines, but hard on the families of the girls he has killed.

Stuart Hazell is giving evidence via video link again today, segregated on remand for his own protection and - according to some reports - even in danger from fellow nonces on the segregation wing. His self-esteem can't have been that high to start with, this'll do it no good.

But - as I said the other day - whilst he's banged up; there may be no more Tias in Heaven.

Don't let the bastards grind you down, Xoxo. Until at least January 1st 2013.

I notice Mark Chapman is up for parole again - another person who sparks fierce debate but he only killed one person!

Denied for another 2 years.................make him morbid?????

He killed a sacred cow; I doubt he'll ever be released. If he'd shot Ringo he'd have been let out in 1985 to a healthy smattering of applause.

It has been suggested that he believed Lennon to be an imposter and he was the real Lennon.

If he had believed he was Ringo Starr he would probably have shot himself. ;)

He could have claimed that he was actually trying to hit Yoko then they might never have pressed charges

After his performance at The Olympic opening ceremony I wish Chapman had done Paul McCartney

It took you that long to wish that particular role reversal?

If Wings* didn't do it for you, The Frog chorus should definitely have done it.

*Wings...The Band the Beatles could have been.

I am going to ride to the defence of Paul McCartney.

With Wings Paul was doing what he wanted to do - make music with people he liked. He made more money from Wings than he ever did from the Beatles and they had some notable successes - Band on the Run, Mull of Kintyre etc.

The question that needs to be asked is What would the Beatles have been without Paul McCartney? - John Lennon and George Harrison did not make music which was as accessible as Paul did.

We have gone a bit off topic and I think it is my fault!!

I grew up near the Mull, and at the age of 10??? I could cheerfully have strangled him myself when he released that damn song. His bloody farm is 15/20 odd miles away so no chance he could see 'mist rolling in from the sea', and the video was filmed near Carradale so that was bollox too...........rant over!

Been thinking, would it be admissible to have a valid DDP hit on a death row inmate who is widely seen as innocent and having organisations like Amnesty International campaigning on their behalf to stop the death sentence? It comes more into the realm of state killing than like carrying out a death penalty for due crimes committed. I quote:

Let's not forget Reggie Clemons, who is fighting for his life right now, despite the fact that the case against him was likely built on police brutality and an abusive prosecutor.

The more publicity people like the late Troy Davis get the better I say. Now 1 year ago.

Here's my €0.02. I understand the reason for excluding the condemned and executed is that it's a predictable death. Whether or not the victim was or wasn't guilty seems immaterial in such reasoning.

I completely agree with that, even though I'm not familiar with the facts of those people's cases. I looked up Troy Davis's article on Wikipedia and his case seems quite a muddy one.

Hein
