BrunoBrimley 83 Posted July 15, 2005 If I had any say in the matter we would hop in our Wayback machine (you, me, Sherman and Mr.Peabody) and go back in time and get that blasted Rowling woman a decent job somewhere so we wouldn't have a group of middle age lunkheads crowding into bookstores for some book which is essentially drivel. (I can say this since I have never read and never intend to read any Potter books. At least not Harry Potter, now if we discuss Beatrix Potter that's another matter.) I tortured myself with one of those Harry Potter films, but only because I find that guy Coltrane to be so adorable and charming in his roles (and robes). Didn't finish that film and haven't seen the rest of them. At least the entire Lord of The Rings series had some umph to them and originality(the Tolkien books I mean, not the overhyped, over-rated, over-priced films), these Potter books are inane hogwash replete with warts. You do realise that she is going to write book after book until the damehood (Which I expect to be announced in the New Years Honours alongside Jamie 'arsehole' Olivers Knighthood). Lady Grendel 137 Posted July 16, 2005 I have to agree with Boudicca that the only way to end it is to kill off HP & Voldemort, it could go on forever if JK doesn't. I read the first two books before HP became a media icon and thought the 3rd one was the best just as HP became a worldwide icon, as for the 4th & 5th I bought them on the day of publication but won't be doing it for this one, I still haven't finished 'Order of the Phoenix' and can't see me doing it anytime soon, there are some great books I remember from my childhood that have recently been republished: Harold and the Purple Crayon Little Black Quasha (so un PC now, I know,please don't take offence) The Wind on the Moon - Eric Linklater The Land of Green Ginger - Noel Langley and those that should have been The Tree That Sat Down - Beverley Nichols The Stream That Stood Still - Beverley Nichols The Mountain of Magic - Beverley Nichols and of course the ones that are always in print, the Narnia Chronicles, I was 21 before I read 'The Last Battle' and was very glad I didn't read it as a child, then there is 'The Phantom Tolbooth' and 'The Weirdstone of Brisingamen'. I hope that HP brings todays kids to the world of books, it gave and still gives me a world of pleasure. As for Robbie Coltrane, I am with you on that one BB, he has appeared on so many sketch shows in Scotland over the years (notably 'a kick up the eighties') and is soon to appear on 'Still Game' a Glasgow based sitcom, the new series of which goes nationwide next Friday on BBC2, I still have a videotape of a one man show he did in Glasgow circa 1989 in an orange boilersuit, his take on the Lazarus resurrection is one of the funniest things I have ever seen Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

I hadn't heard of Influx by JC Jones but it sounds a must read - I'll go and check it out immediately.
