Muhammad Ali

Recommended Posts

Ali's been out and about at the Ryder Cup. Although he doesn't do public speaking anymore he seems in reasonable shape, all things considered. If I was Paul Azinger, I'd certainly have picked him ahead of JB Holmes.

Muhammad Ali. Any thoughts?

Yeah, he still has thoughts, it's the putting them into words and actions that defeats him these days.

Incidentally, I think there's an Ali thread up and running and already well posted upon hereabouts.

Saw this video of him today.

Doesn't look too great but he is still able to walk with some help.

Muhammad Ali pictured at Frazier's funeral looking - well - f***in' terrible if the truth be told. Gaunt, stooped and stumbling. A sad state for one once so magnificent. He's 70 in January, likely to see that but he's not got too long to go now, surely.

Re Ali's birthday; one of those rare ocassions when you could lie a guy on the floor and he could give himself the bumps!

Today's been just a dry run run for his death, hasn't it?

He'd better leave it a little while before going...

Yeah. Given that they've made such a big fuss over this birthday, I can't help but think it may be because it's probably his last. There's no other reason to do it...

It's at least his last big birthday. He won't make it to 80. I'd give him 4 years at the most.

Given he is on this years list, I would like to give him less than 1 year at most.

I was interested to see what role "The Greatest" was to have, after it was known he was in town. Ali looked quite unwell and I for one hope he found it solice to be asked to appear in the London Games opening ceremony. Just to touch in Olympic flag was a ordeal for him and his wife, so the rest of his life must be very troublesome. Never-the-less quite a happy moment during a sad long illness.

I thought having him appear seemed unnecessarily cruel when it appears that he can't even stand unaided. If he pulls through this year he should be kept on for 2013, doesn't look like he has long to go

a bigger ordeal was for him to listen to Paul McCartney shouting "Hey Jude!" at the top of his fucking voice

I agree I thought it was just so sad , like they wheeled him out . His wife or whoever it was , was shouting at him to wave .

I think he is angry inside but can't show it . Definitely shouldn't of been apart of the show .

I don't know that he's near death, but I would venture that's the last public appearance he should be at. I hope they don't keep wheeling him out. I know why they do, but it just makes him some kind of sideshow freak and nulls the amazement factor of him being there.

The cruel thing about Parkinson's is often that you get progressively worse but you often need something else to actually kill you.

one short yet intense right-hook on the head is said to kill at least 1000 brain cells.......I wonder how many of them are left in Ali´s head

What's the consensus on his health. I'm wondering weather or not to change his colour coding to red (very close) on my long list for 2013 or not...??? How long do you think he can or can't keep going? I'm not really too familiar with Parkinson's.
