Former Manchester United player, PA announcer, DJ and scout Harry McShane has died aged 92. He played in the 1951 title winning season but didn't get a medal as he hadn't played the requisite number of games, because of a knee injury.

He was also the father of actor Ian McShane.

Sad news, although you forgot his most important claim to fame, playing once for Reading in 1942. :smileyd:

Discovered Nicky Butt and Andy Ritchie and was one of those inspirational and important people in football that never got the full credit they deserved.

Roger Kirkpatrick

The top-flight referee who was a familiar face on our TV screens in the 60s and 70s has died aged 81. His bushy sideburns earned him the nickname "Mr Pickwick". Not a very good picture in the article, so the one below should server as a better reminder.

sad news...

Roger was an absolute star...he sprinted everywhere on the field with a very distinctive running style...a true "footballers " ref...none of them about today

Neville Southall's looking good.

Almost as good shape as he was in his final days at Everton...

Fk off. He was the man who brought trophies to Stamford Bridge before that tosspot Roman Abramovich was even a twinkle in his fathers eye.

He was also the last man to bring any honours England's way.

He was a proper manager when we had proper football clubs.

I like a trophy in the cabinet as much as the next fan, but football was so much simpler 40 years ago. You did have the sense that the trophy was won as a result of what happened on the pitch rather than what happened in the boardroom, but that's a whole other argument.

I blame Murdoch.

BBC sports blog is reporting the death of Liverpool great Phil 'not the Power' Taylor at the age of 95. He played for the Reds for 18 years and was the manager before Shanks. Also played three times for England (oldest living ex-international?) and played one first-class cricket match for Gloucestershire, scoring a princely 14 runs.

Picked by four DDP teams too.

Mitchell Cole was the first player to score a competitive goal at the new Wembley Stadium, scoring for Stevenage in the 2007 FA Trophy final. He also played for Southend and Oxford. He was forced to quit the game a few years ago due to a heart condition which was revealed could kill him if he ever played again.

Last night he tweeted "London tonight for the usual kickabout with the lads".

You can guess what happened next.

I think Fabrice Muamba ought to think twice before competing in Strictly Come Dancing...
