Right, that's why it was mentioned about a week ago. Lude Check as well, to save a post or two in this thread.

To make this post useful, here are the only two hockey players older than Clint Smith: 1. Louis Holmes (born January 29, 1911), the longest-lived hockey player of all time. Lives in Britain, but I've heard that if you send him a letter asking for an autograph, you get a rather nasty note from his son and he keeps any cards you sent for him to sign. 2. Al Suomi (born October 29, 1913). Lives in Illinois and runs a hardware store. He will sign your autographs, as he's apparently in quite good health.

I just assumed (since this thread was made specifically for hockey players) that if someone were to have posted about Clint's demise they would've done so in here. Upon not seeing his name in the thread, I figured no one had posted it, thus I took the liberty.

Nonetheless, Bill Chadwick (Although he only played minor hockey and is most well-known for his referee work in the nhl) is one of the oldest members of the hockey hall-of-fame. At 94 he's worth keeping an eye on. Other old hall-of-famers are Elmar Lach and Milt Schmidt both at age 91

One of the greatest hockey players to ever lace up skates Jean beliveau has been hospitalized yet again... this time is a result of a stroke.

(He's also had cardiac problems in the past as well as a tumour in the neck.)

As the owner of the Toronto maple Leafs, Brian Burke is no stranger to losing. So I'm sure he took the death of his son, Brendan Burke, fairly well.

Well it turns out that he lived in Edmonton. And he's dead now.

Blackhawk Down!!!

Tough guy Bob Probert's sudden death at age 45.

I had thought Paul Henderson would've been the next notable player to die, seeing as he has chronic lymphocytic leukemia. But I guess ya never know.

94 year old Murray Armstrong

And Vic Lynn, the only player to play with all original six NHL teams.

Hint for 2011 death lists, former NHLer and Canadian Olympic legend Paul Henderson was diagnosed with chronic lymphocytic leukemia earlier this year.

NHL enforcer Derek Boogaard is knocked out at 28.

Puck off

We would also like to encourage our readers to take Derek’s life as an example

Yet another NHL enforcer dies this year, this time it's Wade Belak of a suspected suicide.

The things these players will do to get out of training camp.

The entire Lokomotiv Yaroslavl team, including some players who are apparently slightly famous if you care about international ice hockey, dead in a plane crash.

I'm anticipating news articles to feature claims like "This never would have happened if professional hockey leagues would crack down on hits-to-the-head" (Canadian news outlets ALWAYS talks about the seriousness of 'hits to the head' when a player dies, even when it doesn't pertain at all)

Not a death, but the family of "Mr. Hockey" himself, Gordie Howe, has revealed that he's battling the early stages of dementia. Doesn't sound like he's in any immediate danger, but probably something to keep an eye on.

I'd say he has about 5 years or so left in him depending on other health issues.

My gran suffered from dementia for about 30 years.

it got steadily worse until she passed away at the age of 86

Montreal Canadiens' legend Butch Bouchard died at the ripe age of 92.

He was in my dead pool last year- oh well, that is the way the puck bounces.

The last 'position player' to substitute as a goalie in an NHL game, Jerry Toppazzini, has died. He was actually a fairly notable player in Northern Ontario.
