Well, he's done it. Jiroemon Kimura today overtook Christian Mortensen to become officially the oldest man in history. http://www.telegraph...-on-record.html Congrats to him!

More to the point, congrats to anyone picking him next year cos this is one more reason for all the main news sources to cover his (non-too-distant) death.

His next goal is to make it to next wednesday, when he will become the 10th oldest person ever verified. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_the_verified_oldest_people Christian Mortensen is the only man to make the top 10 list up till now,but he was bumped off by Dina Manfredini a couple of weeks ago .Kimura will avenge him by taking her place!

We are now down to our very last 30 living & verified Victorians!

13 have dropped in the last 18 weeks, November saw 5 of them off.

2013 could be the year we see single figures.

I remember the Black Sox scandal. Shoeless Joe Jackson was never the same person again.

Cue the Daily Mail - http://www.dailymail...n-dies-114.html

Well done to those who picked her. That's 3 hits already.

Better get shifting with these teams but I've made a lot of progress. Not promising anything but fingers crossed the list will be up fairly soon, possibly this week...

There are 2 Victorians left in the UK and a further 28 worldwide. If they live to see the birth of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge's baby they will have lived through 8 royal generations - Queen Victoria, Edward VII, George V, George VI, Elizabeth II, Prince Charles, Prince William, royal baby.

All the more reason my "Pussy Perishes Last" team had to give 2012 a go as a DDP theme outfit. Mamie leaves 19 survivors.

Incidentally: Mamie made the Huffington Post too: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/01/05/mamie-rearden-oldest-us-citizen-dead_n_2416529.html

Meantime, Marjorie Ruddle, one of the world's oldest siblings, has died aged 105. (On Boxing Day, so don't get too excited).

The worlds oldest living politician Gerhard Helders has died at 107 http://en.wikipedia..../Gerard_Helders

Indeed he has: the news site of Dutch broadcaster NOS has the story, in Dutch. Interestingly, some anonymous editor already mentioned his death last Monday just after midnight, in a list of centenarians in the Dutch Wikipedia. I reverted his edit, because there was no conformation of Helders' death in the news then.

Now the waiting game starts. Will UK media pick up the story and give me my first ever Theme Team points?

regards,

Hein

Damn, should have entered him. But I've had him in my personal top 50.

Anyone know who takes Reg Dean's crown as Britain's oldest man? Internets says that there are no male supercentenerians on these hallowed isles now.
