So, How's Your 2015 Shortlist Looking?

Recommended Posts

Hi All, as an Australian deathlister I don't have any great feel for what sort of an Australian celebrity would get an obit in the relevant media agencies in Britain. I see Peter Harvey (a very well known journalist) scored an obit last year. Would your average well known Australian celebrity (who might not be known at all over there) be expected to get an obit?

As far as Australian bands/singers I would say if they have had even minor success charting in the UK or Usa they would get an obit.

I missed out with my 2011 joker, as no UK obit was forthcoming for Aussie fantasy novelist Sara Douglass

It's a shame this beautifully written effort didn't count...

Could really do with getting rid of 2014's names to avoid the dilemma of carrying them over.

Sham Simon etc should stop being so selfish imo .

I'm just gonna roll over my DDP teams this year and switch anyone who's died to a newbie so I'll only need a couple of names.

In terms of serving heads of state, those who've left office will be switched out as well.

You can have 3 subs for each team and you are very unlikely to have four deaths in a team before then (unless maybe if you are Octopus of Odstock) !Luckily I did as I put Healey on twice-I`m hoping they just use your first sub and work into the others if anyone dies!

I'll be dropping Valerie Harper - Like Clive James, I don't think she'll die in the next thirteen months. The cancer, though terminal, is progressing quite slowly.

On the Sandy Jardine Sods Law principle, both are nailed on obits in 2015 now I've said that.

I swapped Valerie for Mary Tyler Moore and didn`t even seriously consider Clive James!

A fairly big meeting just got cancelled for this coming Thursday. So that's an hour when I can open the long list and start planning summat DDP wise, counts as organised by my standards.

Might do a theme team based purely on one of the nomination's rather peaky look which I witnessed on TV today...

Incidentally, the process of the coming year's DDP maybe a little less straightforward than it has been in the last couple of years as my start date for a new work assignment has been brought forward to tomorrow...

Finally deciding if I can conjure 20 names for my long-desired theme team: What A Load of Cobblers (20 people from Northampton).

TMIB: I may well have some free time in the first week of the new year, so if you need to dump any additional bio-writing/DOB-hunting duties on to me, lemme know.

I would say Australian Politicians and successful actors are likely to be obitable as are Australian born celebrities who have settled in the US or UK but I would be wary of picking Aussie celebs who are predominantly known in in Oz solely!

Has anyone submitted their teams yet or am I the only one?

I've put all three of mine in.

December deaths seem to be hard to come by this year which likely seems to be good news for everybodies shortlist.

I'll cut it to one main DDP and one theme team this year. My "great rejoicing" theme team might have more chance this year with a few of those universally hated - Sutcliffe, Brady, Huntley, Mugabe - starting to visibly teeter.

I'd point you in the direction of Peter Tobin then for your Inglorious Bastards list then. Discounting that he was probably Bible John, his list of confirmed crimes put him in the top echelon of British contemptible scum, and he costs a pretty penny in health care due to heart issues and the like. That, and he has protection inside prison to avoid being murdered, and you know what they say about honour among crooks. I've a (very loose) link to someone whose life was ruined by him, so, frankly, I'll be delighted when he's dead.
