BBC FOUR

Recommended Posts

Since there's a Radio 4 and a Deadio Times thread, I don't feel quite so bad starting this - been meaning to do so for a few years. As you may or may not know, I write the EPG/iPlayer blurb for BBC4 (and BBC3 for my sins) - so I'll give you the heads up on worthwhile progs when I can, sometimes involving possible DL candidates.

David Jacobs looked a bit creaky on the Charts Britannia documentary, but Pete Murray had a fine head of white hair.

Coincidence or what? We were talking about those very two people in work yesterday.

I thought Murray seemed in fine fettle. However, Jimmy Young was mentioned but interestingly not seen...

I quite like Beeb 4, ive seen some blindingly good documentaries on it in the past, then again, i am a sad twat wiv strange taste. I consider it to be less of a waste of licence payers money than wot the Beeb will have to pay out in compo to the victims of its sexually deviant past employees.

If you had known, what with you working for dear Aunty, about Saviles sexual preferences, would you have been tempted to write the blurb on a TOTPs episode " This weeks episode is introduced by that PERVERTED PAEDO SCUM BASTARD,Jimmy Savile"....... or summat.

Blimey, you could have warned us 'arry!!!!! :D

I like BBC 4 too. I really enjoyed that Sandy Denny tribute concert the other week, which reminds me what about Dave Swarbrick as a potential candidate?

Andrea Camilleri, the author of the Inspector Montalbano mysteries, turns 87 next year and is a heavy smoker.

That's it, that's my contribution to this thread.

I watch Only Connect on occasions, which is pretty irrelevant as I don't expect Victoria Coren to be turning up her toes anytime soon.

They kept that quiet! Biding their time perhaps...

Fuckin' love BBC 4 I do. Just thought I'd, like, share that with the group.

And they make a lovely couple. While I knew of the impending nuptials, I hadn't realised they took place on Saturday.

I'm sure their relationship has been mentioned here before (something along the lines of Mitchell punching above his weight).

Anyone who has Giles Coren as a brother-in-law has my deepest sympathy...

'Ang on,' I'll get me Slade albums out. Coz I'm sure there's some korkers on them.

Never mind the Slade albums, did you used to have THAT haircut? Did you wear those back crippling boots?

Come on Mary, do tell! :)

PS: My Mum and Dad took me to see their Film "Flame" when it came out back in, er, a long time ago.

Cool.

I never did see that film. I see from wiki that its been released on DVD but has it ever been on TV?

It's going to be part of a BBC4 Slade (mini)Night on Dec 21st. One of the few 60s bands with all the original members living, although not all still in Slade of course.

Mark Kermode was raving about it a few weeks ago. I saw it a while back. Decent film...

Three programmes - the details. Slade in Flame is great, both the film and the album.

Don't make too much of that - he's been receiving honours - http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-gloucestershire-20464290 and although he looks bloody old, he's pretty talkative and seems pretty hale and healthy.

"My Titanic battle to defeat cancer..."

Hmmm I hope he realises the Titanic sank...

Apparently not

For masochists everywhere, BBC4 will be showing it in the first week of January. Quite what 'it' is, I'm not sure yet.

With regard to Gibb presumably 'it' is the performance of the hideously overblown Titanic Requiem, innit? That Slade night looks unmissable. I've got Flame on DVD and it's gloriously gritty and very under-rated. Alan Lake (Mr Diana Dors) and DJ Tommy Vance are amongst the other famous faces on show.

Guy Hamilton was on the Richard Hamster Top Gear James Bond 50th anniversary Cars special not so long back. He looked OK for 90.

I guess I can throw my BBC TV Centre pass in the bin. A few enjoyable times in the bar, never got lost in the supposedly unnavigable doughnut, a weird visit to a TOTP recording in my late 30s... and I don't think I ever saw a real celebrity worth the name. Not even Jimmy Savile.

Eddie Mair, if you are listening, I am very cross with you for playing Deathlist tease on your PM programme.

Yesterday at 5 the show started to the strains of "Three times a lady" by the Commodores and I got quite worried, concerned excited because I thought Lionel Richie had died.

You have been warned.

Just seen this Harry. I too had a weird visit to TOTP in my late 30s. Don't tell me that you too were mates with the producer. It was a tiny set, smoke and mirrors, with camera booms flattening the kids brought in to dance.

I was actually the guest of a bunch of late-30-somethings performing

. Which made it all the weirder.
