Sky news said the US police endeavoured to make sure that the people closest to him got the news first

So they've got someone who can talk to corpses apparently.

I always think of Prince as being similar to Michael Jackson, does anyone else see the parallels or is it just me?

Definitely, they were trying to out-star and out-crazy each other... They were two different kinds of crazy though.

How would you like to have a ticket stub from THIS event??

As for parallels, to me a lot like Frank Zappa: Easily one of the top 5 musicians, guitarists, songwriters, and concert events I've ever seen; but likely not recognized as any of these.

Kindly roll your fucking eyes and your fucking sarcasm elsewhere.

Don't go away all mad Y-Dub, we all take the news of a PRINCE dying on the QUEEN'S birthday differently.

I didn't know there was such thing as sarcasm rolls but I guess it's not that surprising coming from Glasgow

A couple of random observations:

In contrast to David Bowie's demise, I don't have the feeling that death took a couple of good albums yet unmade albums from us.

Actually, we'll be spared a couple of alubm titles with unspeakable acronyms and random, "cool" letter/number combinations.

He was a total anachronism, the second-to-last black megastar who made it without hip-hop influence. He stopped to matter when Gangsta rap came up around 1994/95. Is there any other afircan-american artist who plays "real" instruments and writes his own songs? I can only think of the very last one, Lenny Kravitz, also irrelevant now.

That said, he had a couple of killer tunes, but also a lot of average stuff. He was not the dancer and magnetic personality that Michael Jackson was, but he had a lot more musical skill.

I see what you're getting at. Prince was sort of the black Michael Jackson.

The news of Princes death has reached Windsor Castle where The Queen was reported to have said, 'Is Charles dead ?'

Heh, my mind is always at work, thinking about stuff.

I've also become sort of immune to the news of death.

And as I said above in this thread, I expected him to die young. There's a post by me in my history, if anyone is really bored to check, that says that Prince could be the Whitney Houston of 2015, i.e. the unexpected mega star death of the year.

Also, nothing will match my shock at Bowie's death, unless it's family.
