Ideas and possibilities for 2007

Recommended Posts

As a fatal stampede now appears a fixture at this event, can we have any one hajj attendee for 2007?

Actually, better make that any one hundred hajj attendees.....

There's one name that I've just done a search on in DL and she hasn't been mentioned at all, she should be a good pick for next year....

Miep Gies!

The lady who helped hide Anne Frank and her family during WWII

Miep Gies will be 98 this february

There was some discussion of Miep Gies on the DL forum last year. Not sure if she didn't make it this year for not being famous enough, or for having such a silly name. Plus she didn't do that great a job hiding Anne Frank and co, did she?

According to Wikipedia, which is never wrong (it says so on wikipedia.com), she was born in 1909, which would make her 97 this year.

Ronnie, you're right she'll be 97. sorry case of fat fingers today

well she tried her best.

Then again, people are only as famous if you follow that field. I mentioned to someone here at work about Ariel Sharon and was astonished when they replied "who's that then?"

Miep Gies has her very own thread right here,

As you can see she has been much discussed.

Only those godlike Admins make those kind of decisions.

But I'd say Miep isn't famous enough for DeathList.

Btw what's everyone else's opinion on choosing the world's oldest man / woman

I had this debate with my father-in-law the other day as I personally feel that they don't exactly qualify as they're barely classed as a celebrity

Yeah, but they're a bit like monarchs really. The World's oldest man has died...long live the World's oldest man!

I'd bet she'd probably get a BBC Obit though...

But so does the UK's oldest person, when they die.

The BBC aren't a good arbiter of famousness.

Probably the biggest obit will be on Blue Peter, they drag the Anne Frank story up every so often, what better an opportunity when she croaks.

How about Jason King actor Peter Wyngarde. He's 73 which isn't that old but considering his predelictions who knows what he might have picked up along the way

Perhaps there's a blurry line between famous and significant?

But I suppose we enough problems deciding on who's famous enough, never mind significant enough...

A piece about silent films in today's Telegraph mentions Diana Serra Cary (Baby Peggy), who at 87, it says, is one of only three surviving actors from the silent era. I wonder who the other two are? Mickey Rooney and Shirley Temple? Don't know whether they did silent films. Whoever they are, all three must be upcoming candidates.

Assuming it to be a true, current photo I suggest we look no further for our next nomination than Canadian Paul.

Soupy Sales - Campbells have a weekend sale!

Comes in second as the strangest name. The only person who out does

her is Constance Cummings who had the name of an ultimate porn star.
