I quite liked this interview with Art Garfunkel, who appears to be becoming increasingly eccentric as the years go by.

The Voice U.S. season 8 contestant Anthony Riley dead at 28 according to social media. :skull:

Better in Reality TV thread. No one in the history of The Voice has gone on to any semblance of 'pop stardom' much less Anthony Riley. It's the most useless show on the airwaves, IMO

Blood cancer-stricken Christy Dignam says that "If I die, Aslan goes with me":

The doctors apparently said that he's got "a little more than 12 months left to live". Interestingly, he cut back on his medication

He takes the voyage of the front man syndrome too.

Several bands have "continued" after the death of their lead singer/songwriter. Apart from owt else the survivors have, like, bills to pay etc.

Christy Dignam is the portrait that Gianluigi Buffon keeps hanging up in his attic, right?

Gary Quackenbush, guitarist with SRC, 68, pulmonary fibrosis. http://www.detroitnews.com/story/entertainment/music/2015/06/22/gary-quackenbush-guitarist-helped-power-detroits-src-dies/29129115/

Daystar:

Edit: it's probably more prog rock but I don't know the thread for that.

This one was semi-personal so I never thought to post here. Though 52 (next week) I played bass in a couple bands with Detroit musicians 5-15 years older than I, from bands of the same era as SRC, in particular The Sillies. So I met many of these people through those contacts. I saw Gary play a couple times in the past decade but didn't know him apart from that. Still, us Detroit-area music scene folks are a bit of a contingent, and any losses from the ranks reverberate. RIP Gary Q.

[Edit: Y-Dub I think we have been putting prog rock stuff here (at least I have lol)

http://www.deathlist.net/forums/index.php?showtopic=3234

And SRC was straight up rock n roll despite the song linked. No danger of confusing them with prog rock I don't believe].

Thanks Sir C, sorry to hear of your community loss. The guitar work on that number is amongst the finest I've heard, couldn't resist putting it out there.

Yup, like I said I was so caught up in FB friends saying "I can't believe he's gone" and the sort, it never dawned on me to post it here. DOH. Granted it was word of mouth w no link a few days ago.

Whilst doing some research for a DDP which need not concern anyone here (until 2016 anyway), I discovered that James "Ajax" Baynard, trumpeter and sometime vocalist with Crown Heights Affair, was killed in a road traffic accident back in February. Search turned up nothing so I'm remembering him here. http://www.soulandjazzandfunk.com/news/3242-ajax-baynard-killed.html

Quote from Norman Greenbaum's website (it's in capitals, I've just copied and pasted):

"AS MANY OF MY FANS KNOW, I WAS A PASSENGER IN A TERRIBLE CAR ACCIDENT IN MARCH. I AM HOME, FINALLY, AND STARTING THE NEXT PHASE OF MY REHABILITATION. I WANT TO THANK EVERYONE FOR THEIR PRAYERS AND WELL WISHES, VERY MUCH APPRECIATED. I KNOW THAT IT HELPED PULL ME THROUGH. I SHALL BE POSTING UPDATES WHEN POSSIBLE.

GOD BLESS. NORMAN"

Does that mean his hearing is gone?

As a follow up to the exchanges hereabouts a few days ago regarding the selling power of ageing artists, and their high chart positions being based on the fact their fans still buy albums, I noticed James Taylor's 16th studio album released this month is his first US #1.

Will Neil Young get the same chart position next week? (he's only ever had one chart topper there before)
