Just been anounced David Ervine (Progressive Unionist Party) has been admitted to hospital. (Criticaly Ill) Could this be the first decent famous near miss?

This is true my form is something odd,
But blaming me is blaming God;
Could I create myself anew
I would not fail in pleasing you.

He's not the first significant near miss cos Magnus Magnussen has just trumped him on that score. Main BBC News site are trailing both headlines.

Maryport is a disappointment for which there is no cure, but the annual Deathrace thread hereabouts provides welcome distraction.

And isn't putting progressive and unionist together something of an oxymoron?
(I never will understand British politics)

Ervine news story, still not saying much other than 'taken ill at home' and 'critical.' A combination that often means heart trouble, but we'll see. Not aware anyone - even OSP - even considered him a candidate for carketure.

Latest news, still critical. Started with a heart attack then had a stroke and brain haemorrhage in hospital.
Potential causes of death eh? Like buses, you wait for ages for one and three come along at the same time!

I hope he pulls through.I met him once and he seemed a decent man committed to peace-why couldnt it be Ian Paisley?
Depends if what someone becomes is more important than what they were.
Ervine was imprisoned in Long Kesh in 1974 while an active member of the UVF, after being arrested driving a car bomb to its presumed target of a pub frequented by Catholic civilians
Paisley may be vocal, but...
