How do you mean? Picking the low-hanging fruit of al-Bandar and al-Tikriti? I'm claiming the moral high ground by not having gone for Josie G though! My principles are worth more than 24 points.

My principles are only worth 12.

I think I buggered up my joker.

Who is my joker?

There are probably few noble souls among us who didn't pick at least one of al-Bandar, al-Tikriti or Grove, but I heartily applaud those who did.

I sold out on al-Tikriti and made him my joker. I still stand by that I knew who he was from my studies.

I'll post my list in a day or two, not that I think anyone will want to steal any of my sh*t picks. I aim not to win, since I feel that'll be next to impossible without choosing all three of the above, but only to approve my position from last year.

Right here goes, here's mine....

John Smyth

Is that the Scottish artist or the DUP guy?

Neither Octo my good friend, he's a snooker referee from the Golden age. He was ref at the first

Crucible final in 1977, Alex Higgins' greatest moment in 1982 and was famously embraced by Kirk Stevens in 1984 when the Canadian did his memorable 147 at the Masters.

Whilst watching the snooker in December, Willie Thorne mentioned that he was 'very poorly' Did a bit of research, thinking that he was a current ref. Lo and behold turns out he retired ions ago, so I took a chance... :D

I'm hoping he's my 'Kenneth Griffith' for 2007...

Where's your list Octopus? I looking forward to yours.... :)

For what it's worth, here is mine. The joker will be the same for many, many teams I guess, as 24 points is too high to risk.

Cahal Daly

Eejit you Eejit! - and I thought Daly was gonna be a Unique pick...

Ah well, with 450 contestants, you'd be lucky to get any uniques these days... :D

Where's your list Octopus? I looking forward to yours.... :P

After half the team was decimated in December it looks quite different than I expected.

In order of age:-

Doku Umarov

Barzan Al-Tikriti

Awad al Bandar

Tammy Faye Messner

Lansana Conte

Basil d'Oliveira

Lee Hazelwood

Jimmy Langley

Ariel Sharon

Sir John Herman

Fidel Castro

George Melly

Charlton Heston

Francis Pym

Les Leston

Rev. Billy Graham

Baroness Jeger

Yifthak Shamir

Hans Ruesch

Maurice Papon

No real surprises in that lot. Hopefully 6 unique picks, but we'll see. Doubt I'll win, but if I can make the top 10, that'll do me just fine.

Intriguing selection as always OoO....

I could have added a few more possible uniques (including that footballer I was talking about) but I decided to play a bit safe this time.... :P

I find it very reassuring that 7 of my picks were also selected by Football Fan.

I simply can't understand why nobody has selected Nick Du Toit (again :P )

Did anyone else go for Ramzan Kadyrov ? He ain't gonna make old bones.

I did. He's not got a job where the pension plan is a major concern.

<<snippage of one fabulous list!>>

We were allowed more than one team? If only I'd known! My one-and-only team is a theme team, and so I am not expecting to do that well. (Although admittedly, I probably couldn't have come up with enough names to fill more than one list...)

Aye, right enough Tempus, was hoping my man Michael Mayne might've got a belated fleeting mention on the BBC's list of eminent dead of 2006. Didn't though.

Well when you stip and think about it all and how there's an extea 1/4 day in each year and how the calendar is slightly off, it was technically at least in certain regions of tje world already January 1, so in that manner Saddam actually died in 2007.
