Cliff Mitchelmore is my great great great great grandad.

Please be respectful, I expect more fawning and forelock tugging.

Thank you.

Yeah, I doubt it. Nice spelling.

He's not on any of my numerous DP lists this year, that's all the respect I'm giving.

Isn't SC already known to be middle-aged or thereabouts. If Cliff has sired such a long line he must have started really early; suggesting Operation Yewtree might want to interview his partner in getting this started.

One of the very few to be the anchor on the BBC's General Election TV coverage (1966 & 1970).

And let's be honest, he's far better than Alistair Burnet doing those.

He was also, I seem to recall, first reporter on the scene at the Aberfan disaster as he was doing something (or lived, I think) just down the road at the time.

Ah, yes, Cliff "Scoop" Mitchelmore; didn't he resemble the photofit of the guy seen training a hose on that slag heap for the two weeks before the disaster?

If he really is family perhaps you could fill us in on how's he doing?

Another way of looking at death list is how far removed are these picks from the public of 2016. For example, the likes of the Duke of Edinburgh and Bruce Forsythe may be pretty old but millions of children and people under 30 know who they are. However, some people who were once massive household names are now almost unheard of due to their longevity. Out of this year's top 50 I think a case could be made for Mitchelmore having the lowest awareness in the younger generation. To be honest you'd have to be 55 plus to have heard of him. That's an achievement in itself.

I'm sorry for your loss. Cliff's life was a great contribution to broadcasting and he'll be fondly remembered.

On another note, we're rocking through 'em this year.

I thought he mighta died when I saw this quiet old thread was updated. Time to check if I had him on my shadow list. Edit: The answer is no. Uh... so many misses so far. Vigoda, Ghali, Lee and now Michelmore. But I can't complain because 5 hits is great for March.

We should all live so long and have such an interesting life. Don't think I picked him for anything, simply because he was already an institution when I was born.

Respect to you sir, rest well.

Not much made about his time at Southern Television. Always enjoyed watching him when visiting my godmother in Poole. Day by Day was much better compared to Westward Diary.

Ooh that takes me back. Crispy Cock and Trevor the Weather.

Didn't realise his son, Guy, is now a composer.

Trevor the weather! He had stroke on air iirc. (As in a medical episode, nothing to do with crispy cock).
