Phil Hughes caught a dull yin this morning at the SCG.

Critical and under the knife just now.

He is still in a coma. It is headline news down here since he was in contention to replace Michael Clarke before the accident happened. He genuinely might not make it.

If Michael Schumacher deserves his own thread for his brain injury, Phillip Hughes should have one as well.

Kindly mods, can you please pull over the posts about him from the cricket thread?

Yeah, if they can't return to their respective sports I'm seeing a boy band that'd soak up the sympathy vote on The X Factor.

Yet-another-celebrity-who-survived-a-brain-injury-and-coma, Ian "Molly" Meldrum, gives Hughes his best wishes at the ARIA Awards: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/article-2850116/Aria-Awards-2014-Molly-Meldrum-tears-gives-emotional-tribute-cricketer-Phil-Hughes-Hall-Fame-speech-ARIA-Awards.html

Dead: http://www.abc.net.a...es-dead/5919204

Given he died from a hit to the head, I have to wonder if the journalist who wrote that report is a closet DeathLister, as it contains lines like "He just seems to have a really good head about his shoulders" and the unbelievable "Hughes never dropped his head as he fought back to the top."

If he had dropped his head, he'd still be with us!

Blimey, I don't even like cricket, almost as dull as golf, and I'd never heard of this chap but this has had me pretty choked up this morning for some reason, a total split second freak injury. Just goes to show you never know what's around the corner for you.

Exactly how I feel.

This is crazy. Poor guy, RIP.

Had a bad feeling he wasn't gonna make it though. Some of the crass comments in this thread look a bit stupid now......... I mean it's not like this guy was Schumi or something - i.e. not a cunt.....

I can't paste a link without Android crashing but now the BBC are reporting an Israeli cricket umpire has been killed after being hit in the head with a ball as well.

The Communist Party weigh in with their views!

http://www.wsws.org/...2/hugh-d02.html

It's a good job you reported it, no other major news outlet saw fit to take them seriously. So, is Communism fit for the DL 2015?

Hmmm...well it has been a bit Dianaesque I suppose but he was a cricketer and in Australia, that's a big deal...

I think it died 20 years ago...

Not entirely, I believe, but it has been smelling funny during that time. It appears the news that Russia are no longer the good guys has been completely missed by the people at wsws, if I read their article on some Russian sabre rattling.

Hein
