Brian Matthew has missed the last two editions of Radio 2's Sounds Of The Sixties, and will miss next week's as well due to illness. The show is recorded in advance, so he's been ill for some time.

A possible initial 2017 departure if he makes the starting line.

He's off for the rest of this year at least. We could start placing bets on whether he'll go before or after Desmond Carrington

Bringing this thread back to its intended purpose of where we can watch key deathlist figures in action on the box, Sikh funster Jagraj Singh will be hosting a fundraising event on Sikh Channel this Sunday at 7.30pm. As you undoubtedly know, that's channel 829 on your Sky box.

Word is he won't be coming back and his show is being axed, with Dermot O'Leary replacing it http://radiotoday.co.uk/2017/01/dermot-oleary-hosts-his-last-radio-2-afternoon-show/

A short and much lauded career as a midfield general in the Deathlist Cup awaits, then

Sadly it has been confirmed that Brian Matthew will not be returning to the Sounds of the 60s show. They are holding out the hope that h e might return to the station one day though in some other capacity . He probably won't though. Sounds of the 60s will continue but probably in a n ew time slot http://radiotoday.co.uk/2017/01/brian-matthew-leaves-radio-2-sounds-of-the-60s/

http://radiotoday.co.uk/2017/01/radio-2-tribute-planned-for-desmond-carrington/

Found this on same site - I presume it is intended as a pre death tribute!

It's almost as if they knew he was going to die today !

Conspiracy theory time

They wanted ratings - they rang him every hour on the hour for the previous 24

Didn't Keith Floyd die on the day that Channel 4 had a shitty documentary about him scheduled?

It was shown on the night of the day Floyd died although his death wasn't announced until the next morning.

Pretty sure Simon MacCorkingdale and Gareth Hunt both died the same week their final TV appearances aired.
