Mr Weighton does not consider his age to be an 'accomplishment' and says each year is just as important as the last, adding: 'It is not something that I have worked for. It is just something that comes around, sort of like measles.'

BBC report on the two 110 year olds makes it clear nobody knows for sure which of them is the oldest: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-tayside-central-43583260

Heard the Scottish one speak in an interview. Won't see 111 as rattly as fuck, so shire boy will take the title.

Newt Wallace, who bought the Winters Express newspaper in 1947, met with President John F. Kennedy in the White House and worked at the Express for more than 70 years, died on Easter at age 98.

Wallace called himself the “world's oldest paperboy” as he continued to deliver papers well into his 90s. Ripley’s Believe It or Not recognized his claim three years ago, and the New York Times covered the nonagenarian newsboy.

If Nabi Tajima and Chiyo Miyako both reach May 2 (which is Chiyo's 117th birthday) it will mark the first time in history where one country has produced two living 117 year olds simultaneously!!!

The combinations were:

Emma Morano and Violet Brown

Violet Brown and Nabi Tajima

Nabi Tajima and Chiyo Miyako (hopefully)

It's funny how the weakest/most frail combination of Nabi Tajima + Chiyo Miyako is doing the best.

HOLY CRAP. SHIMOE AKIYAMA GOT VERIFIED. She's now the 7th oldest living person and correct me if I'm wrong, but being validated at 114 years and 300+ is considered "late" right?

She's already the 51st oldest person EVER

Would be interested in the validation process.  What magical piece of evidence they come across today they didn’t have yesterday?

So the poor sod what was 11th place breaks into the top 10 only to have someone verified knocking him or her outta the top 10.

The problem that the GRG has for verifying cases is that they are very limited in money, resources, time, manpower etc. so it is absolutely unreasonable to think that every case out there will get the attention and verification it merits. That and a lot of people just want privacy for their family.

I think with the Japanese cases, all the evidence exists because of their superb record keeping (koseki system).

the bigger problem is discovering the name and exact bday of the supercentenarian, and navigating through japan’s strict privacy laws and getting the familys permission.

Yessir.....I think you nailed it.  OTOH wouldn't such extreme longevity be a matter of pride to some extent, and by God if there's a culture awash in pride, it's the Japanese.  But I bet you are right on....

Centenarian athlete, DDP pick, and all-around cool guy Stanisław Kowalski hit two major milestones in recent weeks.

On March 19th, he became the Oldest Man in Poland, upon the death of Józef Żurek.

On April 14th, he turned 108 years old!

Many happy returns!
