Ooo's Ddp Farewell List

Recommended Posts

After about a good 5 months of self-mass debating ;), I'm decided that this year's DDP will be my last after 11 years. I haven't had the time, since January to properly check up on my picks, or add new names, and I've noticed I haven't had the interest in doing so.

When DDT posted that Adolfo Suarez was near his imminent death, in years gone by I probably would've done :banghead::rant::banghead: and some more likewise, but bar feeling sadness that a man who did a lot to lead Spain from a dictatoral mess to a thriving country has died, the normal feelings of "oh arse, someone I've picked 3 out of the last 4 years but didn't picked this bugger shit bugger face" weren't there.

It's not just because I'm doing badly this year, I'd decided if I won last year, I'd stop then. That's partly why I also gave the Brian Hart gimmee away.

Anyway, enough of this drivel. This isn't farewell to the DL - I still feel a call of duty to update the World Cup players list and my personal survivors list and there is the odd thread I think's worthwhile posting in, but I have cut back. Nothing wrong with DL, it's just with kids and an increased workload, it's time to move on in life.

Below is an semi-alphabetical list of OoO's tips not discussed anywhere that I've seen - all the obvious names are removed, but feel free to use or ignore at your leisure - there's no point me keeping it secret any more I hope they bring luck to you

Sad when good posters leave.

Will you think about coming back when the little shits have grown up and you're old enough to start considering your own obit chances?

You could return in ten years and no doubt the DDP will still be around...

Still sad to see a legend retire. That will mean only myself of the people to have run the DDP to still compete from next year.

Enjoy your time away from the DDP OoO. I personally think you're making a correct decision. You just have to blink and the next thing you know your kids are all grown up. I still can't believe my son is almost 30. Tempus fugit. :(

Erm............. edited to say our member Tempus Fugit is not my son

Hope you get a decent break from DDP, it's always sad when main contributors to the forums leave. But I fully understand what with having two little uns and their expanding social life and increasing workload. Hope you can someday find the time to check in once in a while.

Peace out, big man, an amazing DDP competitor and an even better DL poster. If you have things in your life that are more important than researching how ArtistTaxiDriver's bowel cancer is progressing, I'd take that as a positive not a negative.

Looking forward to Iain's debut as our leader in 2015.

Your posts on this forum are often of the most insightful nature, and so less of them will be noticed, but real life must come first. And kids! (As a new parent, I know how time consuming - but worthwhile - they can be!)

Best of luck with kids, workloads, etc etc. May the World Cup be a good one if you see it.

I see this news comes just as David Quantick starts a new series on Radio 2.

Are the two connected? I think we should be told...

Ever seen the two of them in the same room at the same time?

Luckily none of my secret shortlist are there ;)

Seriously, OoO, that's a shame but understandable. Glad that you'll still be maintaining a presence here, though.

Now you're dead, 3O. I'll think you could change your mind around New Years or just enter under an assumed name.

Thanks guys. Banshees, well, you know, that's the thing isn't it, I could! But no, I'm true to my word. Of course it only takes 5 minutes to think of 20 pretty old or ill people from the top of my head, but if you're going to do something well, do it properly.

TMIB, that's true, if DDP is stil going in about 10 years, then yep, I'll probably chip in. But I need to let other people experience mid-table mediocrity now....

Fun pooling with you, OoO. Thanks for sharing your notes. That was very nice. Its strange to think about the mortality of the DDP. I wonder how many people there are left who would be willing to take on that tremendous feat.
