4. Gerald Ford b. 1913, 38th President 1974-77

5. Sargent Shriver b. 1915, first Peace Corps Director, 1972 V.P Candidate

6. William Proxmire b. 1915, ex Democratic Senator from Wisconsin

8. Caspar Weinberger b. 1917 Reagan Defense Secretary, Iran Contra figure

9. Robert Byrd b. 1917, Democratic Senator from West Virginia since 1959

Yes I know the Fords are both on the 2005 list and there are threads about some of the others, but we should keep an eye on these 12 folks. Wouldn't suprise if 2-3 of them passed with in the next year.

I would think Lady Bird Johnson would be one of the best bets.

Heres why

.. Lyndon is gone 32 years

.. Had a stroke and i bealive can only walk with crouches

.. Shes only mentioned when shes in bad health or in the hospital

.. 92 or 93 years old

Surely a good canidate and for deathlist 2006 should be in the top 10 :P

Can only walk with crouches? That sounds a bit like Groucho Marx.

There does seem to be a concerted campaign by the DLO and friends to get some fairly obscure US politicians on the List. They're to be commended on their persistence, but really, would all these people pass the famous test?

I'd say there is a good chance for Lady Bird in the next year or so.

John Paul Stevens b. 1920 U.S. Supreme Court justice since 1975. Ironically he was the only appointee of Death Lister Gerald Ford.

Thanks for doing the maths....

It's often easy to miscalculate 2005 minus 1914 :D

Peter Rodino died today at age 95 of congestive heart failure. This was one brave and patriotic American. I remember how he stood up for our Constitution in 1974 when Nixon and his cronies were trying to destroy it. A big loss for our country

Consider as well George McGovern b. 1922, 1972 Democratic Presidential Nominee, will be 84 years old.

Former Wisconsin Sen. William Proxmire was a US political figure over 85.

Now he's dead.

He was 90.

That's creepy. Last night I was looking at DDP's list of celebrities and I went to read Richard Pryor's death notice. The entry above him was William Proxmire and I thought to myself, "I'm surprised that he hasn't died."

I guess I can't prove that of course, but I wish I had these premonitions when I could do something about them.

Someone mentioned in the Weinberger thread that ex-U.S. Secretary of State George Shultz has cancer, but I can't confirm that anywhere. He did discuss foreign policy in a roundtable session as recentely as three days ago, so I'm a bit skeptical, but he might be someone to look into if anyone hears anything...

And yes, I'm aware that he's not over 85 yet. Don't bother pointing that out.
