In this new, strange post-Christopher Sanderson-who-was-once-married-to-Susan era, I was wondering what the protocol for starting threads is? I couldn't find anything in the unwritten rules.

I have no news whatsoever on this not particularly old or unwell composer, though I am a big fan of his evocative soundtracks.

He'll die one day, I feel convinced of it.

Oh look, it's on the front page.

Will it be deleted, I ask myself? Merged with Eli Wallach, praps?

Before he broke into film soundtracks, he was a producer specialising in Italian twist artists:

We could always put those crucial Peter Tevis and Marianne Koch updates here too, of course.

Three posts, it'll never get deleted now. Oh, no.

Edit: bollocks, Tevis died in 2006. Who knew. Didn't get so much as a mention in those early DL days.

Well I certainly think the guy who wrote this

is far more worthy of his own thread than someone who was married to Susan Sarandon. So whether you meant to or not, you've actually rather insulted the great guy by using him as a comparison to moan about the other thread (which I agree is rather shitty).

Also he'll be 85 in November so I'm not sure I would say he's "not particularly old" either.

I'm in favour of a thread for everyone who is over 85 or has some sort of vaguely interesting terminal illness, tbh.

Anyone who smashed Susan Sarandon's back doors in for the best part of a decade deserves respect IMO.

That said, Tim Robbins is in fine fettle and doesn't need to have his own thread..

With excellent timing, The Indy reports the death of Jimmy Fontana: Singer who worked with Ennio Morricone.

And doubled with spaghetti scriptwriter luciano vincenzoni at 87 http://www.repubblica.it/spettacoli/cinema/2013/09/22/news/morto_vincenzoni_sceneggiatore_per_germi_e_leone-67032017/

After cancelling earlier dates, Morricone's back on the road again;

After a year of recovery from a spinal injury, Morricone's My Life in Music, World Tour will resume on 1 February 2015 in Amsterdam, stopping in 20 European cities.

He's playing London on Feb 5th and Dublin on Feb 7th, tickets still available, for those wanting to check out the prospects!

My mother and her sister went to a concert of his two weeks ago. It was originally meant to take place last year but had to be re-scheduled. She enjoyed it, but said Morricone had to conduct sitting down sometimes. She wanted to send me pictures but forgot it. I didn't want to question her too much about his life expectancy.

Talks about Tarantino's The Hateful Eight (with Morricone's score) in the Telegraph:

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/music/artists/ennio-morricone-the-hateful-eight-is-like-no-western-you-have-ev/

He had a fall in the summer and broke a femur. He is described as a frail, old man. But he plans to conduct in London in February, sitting down.

Well, he got through the Oscars and an acceptance speech. Still might be odds on for this year though.

Ennio Morricone, musician whose work became synonymous with spaghetti westerns, dies at his home aged 93.

Looks in fine shape, does mr Morricone. That Harvey Weinstein looks as if he goes first of those three in the pic.

Well, his career certainly went before both of theirs...
