Cause of death hadn't been disclosed if be leery to accept that.

For those not in the know this guy took a hokey radio show in my former Detroit market and launched it nationwide. A typical song would begin with his baritone drippy dialogue "Mary in Des Moines, Bill misses you and sends you this song..."

Oh we all made fun of Alan Almond and he was spoofed by comedians etc, but that's the sincerest form of flattery.

You'll be missed Alan Almond, and your sap.

RIP

Val Doonican just died.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-33363938

To me, his BBC tea-times shows were just shy of the entertaining border line boring/fair. But I did like the idea of having a rocking chair.

Do you think it will now start rocking on its own to the lilting distant sound of an acoustic guitar and Irish harmonies?

No. It will have suffered wood worm by now!

He had just two months until retirement.

For the busy DL'er facing too many choices in too little time, this is the thread to provide advance warning of media coverage of those we might like to 'research.'

Studs Terkel - 94 year old author, still chucking them out - is on The Culture Show, BBC2, next Saturday, repeated Sunday.

Gone a bit off topic now and again in the last nine years; so let's remind ourselves that the infamous documentary on rock drummer, addict and all round mentalist Ginger Baker is on BBC 1 tonight.

Terry Wogan pulls out of Children In Need for health reasons...

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-34803750

"Sir Terry had been due to host the TV event alongside Tess Daly, Rochelle Humes, Nick Grimshaw and Fearne Cotton."

Dear God, I'd have pulled out the minute I saw who my co-hosts were - talentless buffoons!

S'cuse me persisting with the original point of this thread - to alert fellow DLers to forthcoming media delights - but at 9-00 tonight the admirably gruesome and gratuitous Autopsy on Channel Five will explore the final hours of George Best, a toss up between that and Crimewatch, eh?

I think the first one is the best choice.😉

Sorry MPFC, BBC2's London Spy was my toss of preference. lol2.gif

Ed Walker, the (blind) 83-year-old Radio Hall of Fame host — who dominated Washington’s airwaves in the 1960s as one half of “The Joy Boys,” with Willard Scott (thus a guaranteed obit) — has recorded his final episode of The Big Broadcast, after recently being diagnosed with cancer.

“The last show was a real tearjerker for me,” Walker told WTOP’s Bruce Alan, who co-hosted a WWRC talk show with Walker from 1987 to 1990. “It wasn’t easy.” Walker invited Alan to visit and conduct an informal interview last Friday, after making his cancer diagnosis public.

Kind of a sneaky pick, I hope I just ruined someone's unique pick for radio hosts.

BBC Radio Devon presenter Tony Beard, who has hosted a Sunday afternoon show almost since the dawn of time, has announced he is suffering from bladder cancer.

Dead at 79. http://www.itv.com/news/westcountry/update/2016-01-31/devon-radio-legend-tony-beard-dies/

This Obit doesn't count as I understand it, so one DDP team awaits a QO. Unless TMIB can confirm...
