The Deathlist Kitchen

Recommended Posts

Given the amount of recipe-swapping and general food conversation in DeadChat, I think there's room for this thread.

Several male posters have revealed themselves to be bloody good cooks.

I'll kick off the thread by asking if DeathListers will be making their own pancakes tomorrow.

What an excellent idea for a thread, Bou!

I personally wil not be making pancakes, though I will be consuming pancakes made by a friend of mine. I believe we are going to be having a three-course pancake meal. One course may involve pancakes shaped as dinosaurs.

With regard to recipes, I think this would be an excellent place for Lady G to post her mother's Xmas pud recipe... :P And in the spirit of reciprocal recipe/food sharing, here is a photo of the wontons I made last night, during the wonton extravaganza:

(This is only a small, represntative sample of the multiplicitous wontons which were consumed as part of the extravaganza...)

Mr B and I once went to the pub / restaurant owned by Mr Oliver's family.

The children's menu consisted of brown fried chicken and fish parts.

Personally I think the highest culinary art form is the sandwich,

so much variety is possible, my absolute favourite is roast chicken and stuffing made with granary bread.

:P all I know is it contains plenty of alcohol and fruit.

I'll be making my own pancakes, served with lemon juice and sugar. This thread is making me hungry, think I'll go and have some pitta breads stuffed with ham & coleslaw, followed by my favourite food Ice Cream, Mmmmm.

Where I come from food has strong connections with death. Death by pie is not uncommon. One of my favourite dishes is mucky fat and bread with lots of pepper, one reason, possibly, that my days are numbered.

Am also keen on herring roes, or was until someone pointed out they are the milt of the herring. Now I'm not so sure.

Godot's recipe for herring roes on toast:

1. Do toast

2. Take half a pound of herring roes, pick off the black bits, then fry in olive oil with a bit of sage or any herb really until they curl up, add a bit of cream and serve on toast with some black pepper. Good also with mushrooms. Great for breakfast.

I make these all the time for a quick "college-budget" meal, and everyone tells me they're disgusting.

Take a tortilla and put several slices of salami inside. Cover with cheese and then heat in the microwave for one minute. Remove and add ranch dressing liberally. Wrap up the tortilla and voila! You have a salami quesadilla!

It's not the healthiest of foods, but it works great on a college budget and takes no time at all to make.

When I have the time, I make Ukrainian Chilli, Borscht, Canadian Caesar Salad or Lemon Chick Wraps, but those are closely guarded secrets of mine. :P

OK here's a step up from the sandwich, it's quicker, easier and cheaper...

Grab yourself 2 white rolls...

Stuff them with either Smokey Bacon or Cheese & Onion Crisps.

The good thing about it is that you can make them just One minute Before your favourite TV show starts... TOP NOTCH !!!

Make them even tastier by spreading Dairylea inside, then add the Cheese and Onion crisps.

Now that's what I call cheesy heaven.

I'm a fan of the pain au Mars bar. Wrap a Mras in a slice of white sandwhich sliced bread and viola, a little slice of France in your own kitchen (unless of course you live in France then it's the other way around).

I don't care much for flapjacks, I tend towards waffles which contain lots of catch basins for buttered rum syrup.

soft boiled quails eggs in tartletts on a bed of baby spinach and crystalized ginger

served that up as a buffet dish at my wedding and one of the guests looked at it and said "haven't you got any normal food"? <_<

Cracking pancakes for tea Grommit. Shrove Tuesday is better than Christmas. Its significance is that they were eating up all the bread before the lynching isn't it?

in eternum's wantons look delicious

I had some Tesco pancakes yesterday .... quite nice.

Afraid I haven't got any recipes to share ... cooking is not really my "thing" (hubby does it all!)

Like Lady Die my other half does most of the cooking. He made a mess of the pancakes yesterday though (I'm sure there's a joke in there). Mind you pancakes that go wrong are always nicer that one's that go right.

They still taste the same even if they are just a blob of batter :)

Captain's Mate (who doubles as Galley Slave) sends congratulations to in eternum+ for those expertly shaped and delicious-looking wontons and is curious to know what they contained.

Our pancakes were home-made french crêpes with sugar and lemon and butter. It took quite a bit of practice for the cook (*not me) to get them the right shape. The early ones were very blobby but we just kept on making them and eating them until they came right . :D Yummy!

* Do any DLers do their own cooking?

I have that problem every time I go out with my sister.

She's intimidated by PizzaExpress.

I do pretty much all my own cooking, I have a few dishes I do well,

these are Spaghetti bolognese, chilli con carne, lemon chicken, shepherds pie and tuna pasta bake.
