Death Notice for Brian 'Badger' Odgers, bass player who played with Van Morrison in 1990. http://announcements.telegraph.co.uk/deaths/198147/brian-badger'-odgers

I believe he was 73.

However, probably best known for being in the short-lived instrumental band Apollo 100 who had a hit in 1972 with Joy: https://youtu.be/3S8jd8WhxoI

Nicholas Caldwell, original member of The Whispers, reportedly dead at 71. http://www.eurweb.com/2016/01/we-remember-nicholas-nick-caldwell-of-the-whispers-dies-at-71/ Presumably from problems associated with his congestive heart failure but still to be confirmed.

But not his heartbeat.

That video is going to be the best thing posted on DL this year!

"my family and I decided it best that I take advantage of a relatively new technology called an LVAD (Left Ventricular Assist Device), which if successful could extend my life expectancy by years."

Not exactly a ringing endorsement of the LVAD three days later. Back to the drawing board.

Not quite - that was posted last summer according to the article. Since he had been given an estimated 3 to 6 months in January last year, he did get another year.

I'll be ticked if Nicholas Caldwell gets a qualifying obit, as he could easily have gone into my 1980 Hits Theme Team (UK Hits obviously), The Whispers reaching Number 2 with And The Beat Goes On in February 1980. If he does, it's a penalty for me for not doing my research more thoroughly.

Not sure how you could find a blog quote suggesting he had a few months to live. If u figure that out please share.

Well it was a popular tune for the time. I remember hearing the song a lot on the radio, but to be honest I wouldn't have been able to tell you the name of the group that sang it.

Janet Jackson having surgery.

Denies it's cancer https://twitter.com/JanetJacksonno smoke without fire (seems rather elaborate, you have yo go to the need of the video for the statement).

And in the meantime she's on about getting to "The Great Forever".....

Nobody mentioned Troy Shondell (Born Gary Wayne Schelton)? A US one hit wonder he died aged 76 on 7 January. http://www.nytimes.com/aponline/2016/01/08/us/ap-us-obit-shondell.html?partner=IFTTT

Here's his 1961 US #6 (UK #22) hit, This Time (We're Really Breaking Up): https://youtu.be/yAp5XcTTBCQ

Edit: Yes, even he gets a UK Obit Michel Delpech would be jealous of: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/wires/ap/article-3391183/Singer-Troy-Shondell-singer-This-Time-dies-age-76.html

David Bowie

quote from his page

"

January 10 2016 - David Bowie died peacefully today surrounded by his family after a courageous 18 month battle with cancer. While many of you will share in this loss, we ask that you respect the family’s privacy during their time of grief."

According to his twitter and facebook page he is dead.

No news outlets have picked this up yet so it could just be someone who hacked into his account.

As a huge Bowie fan, I wanted to resurrect his thread on his birthday, then thought it would be post-whoring. His new album had a couple of ominous signs that I wanted to mention then, never believed it was a signal of something THAT immediate though.

Metal, I'd guess. Lemmie's death must've shocked her.

Aye, let's get a grip here - the discussions above belong in dead pop stars, anyone on this thread dresses in black and waves their hands around with the devil horns gesture - can't see Bill 'Lovely Day' Withers pulling that stunt any day soon.
