Thick question - did he really have only one arm?

No! He really had two. (good acting, eh?)

I remember watching him in Robin's Nest when I was a kid. I really thought he had one arm. Didn't occur to me until a few years later that he was the same actor in Fawlty Towers

Oh God, I'm so thick! I will now sheepishly crawl back into the corner with my dunce's cap on! In my defence, I am a mere spring chicken and Robin's Nest was on waaaaaay before I was even born*

*That is a lie.

Bollocks bollocks bollocks. He was going to be on my list and then I saw him on TV and he looked quite well :banghead:

When I was a kid I never got the joke about him being a one-armed washer-upper in 'Robin's Nest' (oooh, a chance to mention Richard O'Sullivan!). I think I finally twigged about, umm, three years ago...

I don't get it. What was the joke? :scratchhead:

I think the joke was the character that washed dishes and only had one arm.

Bit like having someone with a wooden leg who tap dances.

Or a one-legged Tarzan.

Wasn't really sure if this is the best thread or not, but felt it didn't warrant its own thread.

They've just shown Don't Wait Up - Comedy Connections on BBC1, including interviews with Tony Britton & Dinah Sheridan.

Sheridan, who has not appeared on telly for yonks, and who I thought might be ill, seems as healthy as ever. I think she's about 86 now, but she looked a good 10-15 yrs younger. From having her high up as a potential pick, she's shot down the list now as I think she'll make 90.

Tony Britton, who must be, oh what nearly mid 80's now? Looked okay - I don't think he'll die within the next year or so - still seemed with it, looked robust enough. Probably won't make 90 but I think he will make 2008.

Anyone else see the programme and agree/disagree?

I agree. Those two seem far too healthy for their years and I wouldn't lay any bets on either of them croaking for a good 5 years or so, unless they meet with a nasty traffic accident in the meantime.

Here we are five years on and both Tony and Dinah are still with us. Haven't seen them on telly for a while but if they have retired to the high life who can blame them.

On the subject of forgotten sitcoms, who was the actor who played Robin Tripp on Man About The House? Is he still alive?

there are not that many cast members for either on the busses or dads army that are still with us..

clive dunn was born January 9, 1920, making him 85, but then he always played old men, so at least now he can play old men without needing any makeup.

i saw a recent picture of clive dunn he,s getting the craggy neck and baggy eyes syndrome, lets hope we here him make that old death rattle soon :crossbone:

Best thread pos for this??? Bill Pertwee douses the lights for the last time @ 86 http://www.comedy.co.uk/news/story/00000983/dads_army_star_bill_pertwee_dies_aged_86

This shows the error in jumping first to report a death. I heard of Pertwee's demise last night from three separate but highly credible sources who are rarely wrong. I refrained from mentioning it due to lack of news report to go with it then, just "insider info". Then, when I woke up there, my wife tells me he's had the greatest comeback since Mark Twain. Sometimes caution is good, to avoid looking like a random guest of ill repute.

Guest Pedro

DDP theme team complete. 20 actors from 20 sitcoms. Hopefully Bill Pertwee makes it the new year as he's in it.

We get quite a lot of false illness rumours but I don't remember when we last had a real false death rumour.

Richard Briers has "chronic emphysema".

He's had one fag too many. Now dead!

http://www.bbc.co.uk...t-arts-21294570

Very sad, but at least he had a Good Life...

#EDIT Just seen that his death was reported in the 2013 Deaths thread, with the above one liner utilised...twice. Sorry for my apparent lack of originality, but great minds think alike etc etc... Let's try something different...

I wonder if his coffin will descend into the ground in an ever decreasing circle?

No, ok, it was never going to work, was it...

Guess this puts a new perspective on Fred Phelps's "FAGS DIE" warbling.
