Boxer counted out

http://www.bbc.com/news/uk-scotland-37526636

Rather oddly his death was announced quite a few hours ago then he "was still fighting" and finally definitively over. I can almost picture Michael Buffer saying "We go to the scorecards, Judge 1 says "Dead", Judge 2 has it "Alive" and Judge 3 for the winner by Majority Decision....and still undefeated.... DEATH!

Perico Fernandez, a handy enough super lightweight who became world champion during the 70s, dead at 64.He'd been in a care home for the past four years. Most interestingly though, he was on the losing end of a fight in 1975 to Saensak Muangsurin, which saw the Thai boxer become a world champion in just his third fight, less than eight months after turning pro.

Alex Stewart, a heavyweight contender who fought Mike Tyson and Evander Holyfield and nearly beat George Foreman, died on Nov. 16 in Mount Vernon, N.Y. He was 52. His death was confirmed by Mike Gilberg, a friend, who said Stewart had had a blood clot in his lung.

Just think, if he HAD beaten George Foreman he'd be one of the greatest and we'd have reported his death on 16th Nov and not a week later. Fame is so fickle.....

Wonder if he is sensible enough not to try sparring in the future.
