I've vaguely heard of Leon Haywood, but still no idea who Merle Haggard was.

Oh well.

Report of the death of Leon Haywood at 74: http://www.soultracks.com/story-leon-haywood-dies

His biggest and possibly only UK hit came in 1980 (yes, it's another miss for my DDP team) Don't Push It, Don't Force It:

And the even filthier I Wanna Do Something Freaky To You

I remember it well Sad news.

Edit - just looked at YW's link and saw this comment:

"Oddly enough i was just thinking about two days ago how "Don't Push It Don't Force It" was the first 12" I ever purchased"

The Winter dance party of 1959 was a gruelling 24-day tour around the Midwest by a bunch of artists. The crash of Holly, Valence

Didn't know she'd died, I loved 'Kiss Kiss'

The Pete Best of The Chordettes, Dorothy Schwartz, original member who left just prior to The Chordettes having their big time success, has died. http://www.sheboyganpress.com/story/news/2016/04/06/dorothy-schwartz-member-chordettes-passes-away/82708144/

We're running out of Beatles. So, there's summat like a one in three chance Pete Best might outlive the others.

Ivan Julian's cancer diagnosis (Richard Hell's guitarist) was certainly known by a couple of you, but you didn't post it? Anyway, your secret is out. *sticks tongue out* pwwwwwt!

This seems right up the research trail of a couple of you GoFundMe hounds (not naming names). How dare you not share your shit. We're an autonomous collective!

I was going to say "I'm not very good at looking up GoFundMe" but when I went to add his name to my provisional 2017 list, I found he was already there!

And there's no prior mention of him on this forum! I have no recollection whatsoever of finding out about this.

David Bowie's drummer from the 1970s, Dennis Davis, has died of cancer. Another one one of my retrospective misses...

Not like Schwartz to run out of thyme. My local Sainsburys do stock it thankfully.

According to Twitter, Steve Severin out of Siouxsie and the Banshees had a kidney transplant yesterday. One to watch, perhaps.

That choon was brilliant. However, sharing a house with my god-fearing, at the Church 6 days a week, father, here's a heads up. Anyone in the same position WILL get a row if it's too loud.

Now Richard Lyons has died on his birthday: http://www.rollingstone.com/music/news/richard-lyons-negativland-founder-dead-at-57-20160421

Thomas is still fighting bravely in Miami. A mass will be held here dedicating prayer for his healing at 7PM EST this evening. We are asking that everyone please join together at that moment and send Thomas your thoughts, prayers and meditations for healing and strength. Let's band together and give him that extra push towards health.

Rather not start a thread for world musicians tbh, so it goes here. Congolese musical icon Papa Wemba dies on stage, gets a BBC Breaking alert.

Further information is proving hard to come by, but it appears that Emile Ford, who with the Checkmates had a number one with 'What do you want to make those eyes at me for' died on 11th April. That's the date Wiki has recorded for him - though I haven't seen a single UK obit for the man behind 1959's Christmas number one.
