Anyone remember the headline on the Sun back page when he was injured once?

"SWOLLEN DICKS OUT"

No, but I remember when Alan Dicks was manager of Fulham, and none-too-popular.

Coincidentally, he'll be 75 next week. Wonder what his health's like.

Not soon enough:

Dick_and_Dom.jpg

(For the uninitiated the one on the right is 'Dick' and his pal is 'Dom', of 'Dick and Dom in da Bungalow', whose only discernable talent seems to consist of going into libraries, cinemas, crematoria etc. and shouting 'bogies' as loudly as possible)

Am I allowed to post a slightly past-its-sell-by-date death? Good, thank you.

Disco impresario Dick Griffey shimmied off the dancefloor last month. Founder of SOLAR Records and co-writer of The Whispers' And the Beat Goes On, in a roundabout way Dick was quite influential on my early teenage years. Before I shaved the afro and ditched the flares for a parka and a Rickenbacker.

Did you go backwards in time or something?

He probably won't get a UK obit, but the fine works of the very ill surgeon Dr Sharad Kimar Dicksheet deserve a mention here. Even though he is "battling throat cancer and can barely talk, is confined to a wheelchair because of an accident, has undergone a triple bypass surgery and has a heart that functions only up to 18% of its capacity" he is still working for free and making a real difference to the lives of disfigured children in India.

I'd have bet my dick he'd see in 2012:

Much as I'm fascinated by expiring Australians, a Tasmanian art gallery director? My hamster's more famous than this bloke, and I don't have one.

His name - as you would imagine - rang a bell as I remember seeing his name on the Wikipedia roll call of the dead - and sure enough he didn't get an obit from the UK press. Shame, as it's a wonderful moniker for DDP pun purposes- obit from Indian Express - http://www.indianexpress.com/news/doc-who-changed-lives-from-a-wheelchair/876968/

Important enough to get an ABC obit and who could resist with a name like that?

Dutch cartoonist and sports illustrator Dik Bruynesteyn died today, aged 84.

An English obit isn't likely, so here's one in Dutch.

regards,

Hein
