Here's a sort of a list. One might want to look for humanists too.

Quite an interesting list of sinners, there, with rather a few dead ones. Several also already have a topic here.

Anyway, I doubt this topic will be productive. Few people, if any, are famous for being an atheist; this in contrast to many self-apointed ground staff of their gods.

Richard Dawkins is undoubtedly the most famous, aged 71, but I dare say he'll be goading god bothering fundamentalists for a while yet.

Ayan Hirsi Ali is worth keeping an eye on, requires round-the-clock security due to her inflammatory, anti-Islamic views. Receives death threats all the time, I think she'd quite like to be assassinated really, would enhance her martyrdom

I learned the other day that Mrs Richard Dawkins, (aka the Honourable Sarah Ward, aka Lalla Ward, aka Romana of Dr Who fame), once illustrated a book on "astrology for pets". I am sure her husband approves of that!

Wow that's some list.

Bet they all repent their sins on their deathbed and come back into the bosom of our lord and saviour Allah Jesus Jehovah Christ in order to get into heaven so they can party with their 72 virgins whilst waiting for Buddha to get off her fat ass and send them back as something nice....and if they don't repent...well they'll end up in the place priests go!!

Dawkins won't, perhaps he'll invite a collective of godbotherers to his bedside so he can give them all the finger just before the time comes

Personally I think this topic is already covered by the "Arrogant Academics" thread. The only people best described by the term atheist is Richard Dawson and a few like him. Hitchens and Vidal are dead, and Randi has his own thread.

For the record, I am an atheist.

Sagan, Gould, Hitchens, Douglas Adams, Linda Smith: all prominent atheists who got a chance to see if they were right or wrong prematurely.

Pratchett about to join them as well. Fingers crossed for Gervais.

Being an atheist[1] myself, I'd love to learn their experience. As far as I know they've been silent, which is of course what would be expected of the dead.

[1] More precisely, I'm both an atheist and an agnostic. Atheist meaning that I don't believe any gods exist. Agnostic meaning that I don't know whether one or more gods do or don't exist. I also doubt that it's possible to learn.

Hein

If we are talking about the same fella, he was british born ( IIRC his mother was American) and was the Ex husband of Diana Dors and, yes, he was a game show host.
Thanks TM for the link, there are a few names that suprised me, well, not so much suprised more of a case of " Oh really?"
I actually started the thread while considering whether serial killers and/or premeditated murderers are atheists.
Im separating the Religious fanatics with their skewed vision of Earth and the after life from those that have murdered without remorse.
Im curious to know if any in depth study has been done on this. I know Scientists have, allegedly, identified parts of the brain that are different between said murderers and the rest of us but does that mean they also have no belief or faith in the afterlife? Is their certainty of no punishment or visit to hell part of their make up in taking life without any remorse or feeling?
Just wondering, like.

Throw Nicklinson into the pot as well. He said he didn't believe in God in an interview with the Guardian a couple of months ago.

Diana Athill (b. 1917) has been mentioned on other threads I'm pretty sure but is worthy of inclusion here, on account of her recent musings on ageing and expressing her non-belief. Resides in a care home now

The House Of Lords leave of absence register has been recently updated. Some of the peers listed below are absent for work related reasons, but others may have been reduced to such decrepitude that they are no longer able to function in Britian's upper chamber. Given the fact that many sitting peers look like they died several years ago, one can only imagine the physical or mental state of those who feel unable to take part.

I don't know when they will all die, but they will all get obituaries when their time comes

Apologies to HMBWA for the blatant theft of his idea of making posts more pleasing to the eye, I've gone for a slightly more gaudy colour combination and also opted for Trebuchet (in italics and bold, naturally) over Comic Sans..
