Hear, hear Banshees!

Not sure that DLB has the concentration necessary to read and understand such a long post though, even though you obviously went to some trouble to formulate it in ways which should be familiar to him.

Let's hope he gets the message. That smiley is starting to get a bit annoying, when it appears on a new thread.

a canadien is 117. julie winnefred bertrand born september 16 1889

I believe that the Wandering Jew is older still. I met him in a Wetherspoon's last year. He was hammered. The WJ told me that he had recently met Enoch in a Happy Eater and that Enoch was even older. I know little of the good book so I have to accept what they say.

World's oldest living baseball player discovered, aged 111.

I hope the old chap gets a bit of acclaim now that he's been rediscovered.

I wonder if he'd get a UK obituary, unfortunately I kind of doubt it, otherwise he'd be an excellent DDP pick.

Not for 2007 it would seem. Dead now.

Oh well, another one that I had pencilled in for next year has bitten the dust.

Oldest Rwandan dies

Zimurinda Stephen, aged 127. Reputedly the "oldest Rwandan"... in Rwanda... so probably in the World. I suspect there's not too many Rwandans in places such as Mexico and Iceland, and certainly not aged 127+.

I'm guessing a birth certificate is unlikely to appear for yer Rwandan man.

this is the oldest living person in the world she is 116, maybe when she dies it will make news headlines.

Emiliano Mercado del Toro is the oldest living man he is only 115 , but maybe worth a punt!!!

Lizzie Bolden will make the news, purely because she was the world's oldest person before Maria Esther de Capovilla was discovered to be older. This made Bolden the oldest confirmed person in the US and now she's both the oldest in the US and the world

Britain's oldest person Annie Knight has died aged 111.

How come this news can only be found in The Australian, weird.

In cricket, a score of 111 is supposed to be unlucky. I think that's because it's the total England usually get bowled out for by Australia. Here's some other far-fetched theories....

That is weird, since the BBC ran an article when it was her birthday back in June

I've been in Aberdeen every day this week and heard nothing of her demise.

If she is dead, does that make Allingham the oldest Briton?

According to http://www.grg.org/Adams/E.HTM the oldest is Aida Mason who is 111 and 62 days

The BBC are now carrying the story

Henry Allingham is the 5th oldest person in the UK and the oldest man at a young age of 110 years and 172 days

The good ol' Mirror has picked up on it now:

Good to Go

However, the article concentrates more on former world's oldest woman, Jeanne Calment, who died in 1997 aged 122. I thought it was worth quoting here:

"Jeanne was virtually blind and deaf - and totally miserable. Her only pleasure was chocolate, which was used to coax her to talk to the media. When she smelt it, she'd break wind with excitement and whisper a soundbite bringing publicity to her French nursing home. The one she imparted to me was that she hadn't had sex since 1940. Then she fell asleep and we had to wait until she came round again before we could offer another chocolate, hear her rasp with delight, and ask another question ...

... Life terrific after 100? Only if you fancy turning into a cabbage who breaks wind at the thought of announcing you haven't had it for 56 years. All so you'll get a chocolate button"

Considering Robert Young was the poster of the news, I think it is very likely she has died. Give it till tomorrow morning (UK) or later tonight (US)

So, Mercado del Toro is now the oldest person in the world. He would have to be on my DDP list and not the other two.... :)

I'll have to hold off on announcing the news just yet as one of the stipulations from our "family" dead pool is that they need a news site web write-up.

Although if I happen to catch it on the CNN crawler, then it will only be a matter of time before it appears on their site.

OK it's now on CNN

So young, so youing why was she taken so young,

it's all too harrowing when a tragedy* like this occurs.

*The tragedy being I didn't have her in any deadpool as far as I remember.

Man that sucks but 116 OMG! No one has been 116 for quite a while. I was just wondering the other day how much longer she would exist seeing as she recently had a birthday. Why do they always pop off just after a birthday? It's like that was all the were living for, one more birthday!

It's been a very sad day, it's only a few hours since I heard of General Pinochet's departing and now this!!

Aye, one or two of us spotted her a while back. Kinda useful in the CPDP, since she's female and Canadian.
