Never trust the Guardian for research. If you check the London Evening Post, for whom Astles wrote for, he died on the 29th Dec 2012.

According to Hugh Muir of the Guardian, Idi Amin's right hand man Bob Astles died "three weeks ago", which strictly speaking was December 31st 2012, but I'm not 100% sure...
