Lardy, did you watch "The Snowman and the Snowdog"? Awwwww. Me and my two canine companions were in floods of tears. Well, I was.

No, I haven't watched any Christmas telly due to it all being a pile of shite. I am currently having a nice quiet afternoon in an empty house catching up with Dallas on the Sky+ box. And after that I have two Frankie Boyle DVDs and the MotoGP 2012 review to watch in peace. Hurrah!

Came across this while surveying a Lincolnshire Estate. This must have been a well loved dog!

memorystick459.jpg

It reads:

Pompey 1885 - 1901

My friend is fled, my Pompeys dead

His joyous bark is heard no more

His name, the leaves through Walcots trees

Shall sadly sigh for evermore

Wow, that looks even bigger than the memorial to Lord Byron's dog.

My parrot (Amazon orange wing) seemed to take a stroke last night and fell off her perch. Went to the vet today, she got steriods and anti biotics (for a stroke?).

She's only about 15-20 years old and we've had her about 13 years

Doesn't look too promising for her :(

Sadly, she died about an hour ago. :( :(

Sorry for your loss PB . I have always wanted a parrot , is it true some live for 80 or more years ?

Would you recommend them as a good pet ?

The day after Christmas we had to euthanize my mother's cocker spaniel Kaydee. She had been ill for a year with dilated cardiomyopathy and lung cancer. Her tumor spread and she couldn't fight it anymore. I miss her.

My mum had to take one of our cats to be put down today, he was 14 years old and he'd had a good life but it doesn't make it any easier.

I don't know how on earth I missed your post Engineer, sorry for not replying sooner.

They make great pets, especially if you get them from a young age and the pick up talking. They can be comical at times. My other parrot is an African grey and a fantastic talker. Only took a weekend to teach it to say my name. Once she picked it up, it came out with 'Hello Paul' (Not my real name of course, but I'm sure you get my drift) Always says 'Bye' when I'm going out to work in the morning and a 'Hello' when I come back in. As for how long they live, probably between 30 - 50 years. I suppose there will be exceptions and some may live on to a ripe old age.

I denfitely want one or two as a family pet when i settle down (african grey and a macaw) and and i like the fact they live so long too. I guess there will be alot to learn though so i best study before i buy one lol.

The Japanese really have too much time on their hands ,but why is their population declining ? Surely if your bored with nothing to do having sex is alot easier and more pleasureable than making cat porn.

I know for sure that Pinnochio had a Wood Pecker - why don't you try a pet like that?

I'm genuinely saddened for your loss. When my dog Butch died, I cried my heart out. Sadly, I can't say the same about my parents.

Me too. I lost my lovely dog last year, it's so crap that their lives are so short.

Concerning the bolded part: I believe the right word is worshipped. It's a well known fact that people don't keep cats, cats keep people.

Hein
